Re: Stanchions

OK! OK! I'm convinced. Stanchion remove more then removing bolts. I have used a frame in previous years with less then desired results. As I was the originator to this thread, I will conclude with my thanks for your valued input

Stanchions

I'm considering removal of the stanchions to increase the pitch for the winter cover. Has anyone done this? It appears they are bolted rather than bedded to the deck. Your comments please.

Re: Cockpit Repair

Hey Gazman Good point. My quirey is more preventative than anything else. I feel more confident in removing, capping, reconnecting and bleed the hyd system than I do with the fibreglass repair. I assume that any crack is a structural issue. There must be some vibration occurring for the crack to dev...

Cockpit Repair

The PO of our 98 :macx: installed a hydraulic auto pilot system. The pictures should show how the hyd and electric lines were run to the cylinder that attaches to the steering bar. The Vertical wall of the cockpit where the hoses run through is now cracking. I am considering using a 4" cable bo...

Re: 26X mast crutch dimensions?

I too have the old style transom mounted mast crutch and would like to change it. Does the newer style extend to cockpit sole inside of the helm housing?

Re: Worst Nightmare

Neo, in my experience with insurance adjusters, they are the professionals and they will negotiate. You could successfully negotiate the cost of the re-rigging less a deductible due to "betterment". The rigging is considered an item that wears out due to use (like a tire). But I would expe...

Re: New to the Board. New to Sailing!!

Daniel, I will keep my eyes peeled for you at Lake Wabamun. I am sure i could use a lesson or two on getting it sailing .. We (Admiral and I) plan our making that our home base so I am sure we will run into you. Haven't named the boat officially but it looks like it will be "Solitude". Ev...

Re: New to the Board. New to Sailing!!

Welcome to the group simplesailer. As you already know, you will enjoy your time here. The admiral and I keep our :macx: "Spirit Wind" in Leduc during this hard water time and Lake Wabamun during the season. Hope to see you on the water.

Re: Sidestays - New Owner

The only thing I can think of is that he (or she) was dividing the shrouds on each side, attaching the ones coming over the spreaders to one point and the shrouds coming straight from the mast to another, separate point. Or perhaps the attaching points are for baby stays for the purpose of raising a...

Re: Mainsail down haul

A timely topic! The groups discussion to the Mainsail down haul is easy to imagine establishing on ones vessel. However, I'm preplexed with how a downhaul would be rigged to the jib. Does one just deal with the head and tack of the sail? Or is it important to include the clew in the foresail rigging.

Re: New owner with basic trailering questions

Curwen, in my experience, fish tailing of a trailer is normally due to poor weight distribution. If more weight can be moved forward to increase ball weight, that should help. If you are unable to redistribute the weight, you're going to have to reduce your driving speed. Some short practise runs wi...

Re: Has anyone ever pulled a MacGregor through ...

We have not pulled our boat through there, but have with other trailers. Marias Pass, 5213 ft/1589 m, is the only one crossing the Continental Divide on hyway 2. It is 2 lane and winding, but a very relaxed drive. If you come in from the east to Browning and then East Glacier the drive is very manag...

Re: Drain hole

I have a 1998 :macx: the motor well drains to the transom, but on the starboard side. you can confirm this by removing the trim piece mounted at the very rear of the cabin. Behind it you should find the drain connections.
