Standard Shaft vs Long Shaft on a 26D

I recently acquired a 26D. The boat came with a very nice 6hp LS but my father has offered me his very nearly new 15HP, but the shaft is a standard length. I like the idea of the 15HP because I like the idea of reaching hull speed without having to run the motor wide open. The area that I sail in ha...

Trailer Rental Needed DC/MD/NOVA

Hey all, I am hoping to buy a 26D this coming weekend but the boat has no trailer. I am not terribly concerned about owning a trailer right away but having one to get the boat from Havre De Grace, MD to Colonial Beach, VA would be really helpful. I have already planned the time to sail it down but i...

A little something for the sailing widows

My significant other is a bit indifferent about the whole boat thing. She enjoys it but it is not as top of mind for her nearly as often as for me. So, I got ahold of this sound bite and thought I would share!

Just so I am clear, what are the consequences of a daggerboard making contact with the bottom? Does the boat reach enough speed and momentum to snap the daggerboard or worse, damage the boat? Or is it more of an inconvenience?

Thanks,

Rick

Moving on up to a 26D - Advice?

Well its only been a season and I think its time to move up. I know, I know. "How can you succumb to 2-foot-itis in a season?" I am weak, I admit it. As it turns out, I love my little V17. Its a great little boat. Operative word being "little". But my experiences this past season...

Your boat looks really well done and quite comfortable! I have been seriously considering upgrading to a 21 or 22. My main concern is that I can't even sit up straight in my little V17 (I am 6'4". I have only had it on one cruise for several nights and it sleeps ok. I don't need to stand up str...

Rideau Canal - Some Visuals for the V17 Owners

Just got back last week from cruising for a couple of weeks on the Rideau Canal in Ontario. I kinda geeked out a little while I was out there and put together some of the footage from the trip. Thought I might share it with the other V17 people or anyone who might be interested in the Rideau. http:/...

Honestly, I haven't measured my shaft (well not since I was 14 anyway 8) ). I am pretty sure it would fall into the 15" range. Its certainly not a long shaft (never had any complaints though). I have had issues with reverse, as I said, and the new prop helps but I am certainly not going to be p...

I have a V17 and am using an old Johnson 6HP. It moves the boat pretty well but I had to put a new, lower pitched prop (Thanks Glen and Alan) on it to get any type of reverse. I was told that the V17 can take up to a 10HP but I don't think I would want to add that much to it. The 6HP moves the boat ...

Adding a fuel locker (Underseat Locker) V17

This might be a newbie thing, but I really need some help with figuring out some cockpit storage solution for a V17. If you don't have a V17, no worries, any experience is better than mine in this arena. I am primarily interested in installing some sort of locker into which I can place my 3 gallon f...

The demise of the Yachtsea

This might be old news on this board, I don't know. I ran a search for the name of the boat and nothing came up so I thought I would share the link. The link shows the demise of the Yachtsea under the Golden Gate. http://photos.sfsurvey.com/sail1/imagepages/image1.asp Now THAT is a bad day... :| Ric...

Great points! Here is why I was thinking of going inflatable. I am relatively new to this boat. On the first day, I got banged by the boom a few times, nothing major but I attributed that to luck more than anything. The boat is small, I am tall and the clearance is all of about 2 inches when I sit i...

Thanks ssichler. I'll certainly look into that one as well. Definately NOT interested in risking life and limb over a few bucks but I am very curious about the differences. I mean how many manufacturers of and types of the hydrostatic mechanism could there be? If it comes down to working vs. not wor...
