Re: New member old Venture 21

There is a halyard already for the jib/genoa that runs to the head. Maybe it was converted by a different owner and they left this in place. Wayward, are you saying there are two blocks on the ahead side of the mast? The lower block and hound are for your foresail; the "cable" is your for...

Re: Mac 25 Companionway threshold flexing

To build on what Dragonfly noted, there is a bulkhead directly under the companionway that is bolted to the cockpit. This directly supports the companionway threshold as well as the forward portion of the cockpit and, indirectly, aids in stiffening the cabin top. If the bulkhead is present, then you...

Out of curiosity, where, other than the Connecticut, is your club sailing? Didn't think there was any activity up that way!

Pete, just noticed you're not too far from me! Where'd you find the V21? Oddly enough, I see a Catalina 22 for sail near Stafford for under $2k...

Re: Line discussion

Without even watching the video I can immediately think of several reasons not to use dyneema for running rigging and, after watching, looks like they came to the same conclusions. Now pure dyneema for standing rigging is another topic...

Re: Sailboat owner wannabe here.

Magregor Venture line is what you're looking for: there's the 19, the 21, which you have found, the 22 and its pop-top cousin the 2-22; the Newport 23, the 24 and, my baby, the 2-24 which, you may have guessed, is also equipped with the pop top. Also, as someone mentioned, is the Mac25 which is most...

Re: Blue Sea Systems DC Voltage

The only way to determine cause is to get your voltmeter and start prodding... Start at your battery and ensure you're at or near 13V DC (A battery accepting a charge will be >13V; a good battery at rest should read between 12.5V-12.9V). If you're below 12V, there's a major problem with either your ...

Re: Venture 25 main sheet, rear vs traveller, yet another thread

One more point to consider is that you will have three sheets on the transom: two for each the port and starboard bridle control lines and the third for the actual main sheet. I think that would be my biggest concern! This was one of the reasons I strayed away from the "double sheet" syste...

Re: Venture 25 main sheet, rear vs traveller, yet another thread

I'm in a similar position with my V2-24, which has a very similar (if not identical) cockpit arrangement to your V25. The boat came from the factory with the clearly inferior A-frame sheet system (oddly, I've read that this is excellent for multihulls). Somewhere down the line, a PO installed a trav...

Re: Running rigging/mast questions

As noted, photos would help. If I were to take a best guess, I'd say those extra lines could be downhauls, for both the head and main. A downhaul allows one to quickly, and with great control, drop cloth when things get spicy. Another guess, at least for the aftmost line, would be for a topping lift...

Re: V2-24 and it was F R E E

It's not really a rolling furler as the boom itself is attached to the mast via a rotating bolt to which an handle is fixed so that one could let out the halyard and rotate the handle to furl the main about the boom. The more I studied it, I quickly realized that this was a storage system, only and ...

Re: V224 Leveling Points

There is nothing plumb or square anywhere on these boats. I happily found that the top of my keel trunk is nearly plumb fore and aft when the boat is in the water on her lines. I use that as my reference point for everything now. That one garnered a sensible chuckle from me! I suspected as much so ...

Re: V2-24 and it was F R E E

Topcat, you just made my evening: that is almost exactly what I'm dealing with, although my cockpit floor hasn't sunk, from what I can tell. The scupper and guide tube are completely missing and I suspect the turn bolt and other associated hardware are MIA, as well. I can't seem to find a direct rep...
