Sharing my happiness
Remember I've mentioned a horror story about the engine we bought for our Mac26X? Of course you don't. And I know you are tired of hearing other peoples stories and everyone here has a hundred of his own stories to tell... But I will tell mine anyway. Because sharing multiply things shared, and ther...

The PO of our Mac 26X at the beginning of our negotiation wasn't sure if he had main sail or not
He never sailed, only motoring

Re: trailer sailor or not?
Go for it, definitely. It's much, much better deal. I drove 2000+ one way miles for our boat and not regretting it one bit.kevinkirby wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 7:30 am Love the total redo of the white boat and the warrantied new 60hp Mercury! Re: Has anyone had experience with a battery to battery charger
To charge the batteries with the truck as we travel it seems a battery to battery charger is the best way. DC-DC (battery-to-battery) charger is needed in order to limit charging current, thus protecting the alternator from overheating, when charging LiFePO4 battery with regular alternator. If your...

Re: Battery maintenance on land
My understanding is your batteries are lead-acid. I would definitely set up a solar trickle charger for them, this batteries really don't like been depleted and stored with low charge state. Something like this (first search for "solar trickle charge" on Amazon) 30 watts for ~$50 right now...

Re: trailer sailor or not?
After 15+ years of regular sailing of beach catamarans in Galveston Bay, we desperately wanted something able to reach other water bodies (read "lakes of United States mainland"). So, it had to be trailerable. Plus, it had to have at least minimal seaworthiness, to be able to reach the Bah...

Re: LED lights for cabin and navigation.
Closing the loop on the cabin lights. I purchased these LEDs and like the light color. No issues with polarity on my boat. Re: Roller furler explosion
I'm not sure if this could be a contributing factor, but my furler uses 3/16" line , which looks considerably thinner than what yours is using. Good point. The furling line does seem unusually thick. Its hard to get the right number of turns on the drum without it rubbing on the body of the fu...

Re: First time taking down the mast
1. Is there a trick to removing the jib furler pin? It stuck a bit. I've bought and installed tension lever at backstay, ~$70, worth every penny. https://www.shopsoundboatworks.com/search?type=product&q=Johnson%20Quick%20Release%20Lever%20(large)%201/8%20Wire%201/4%20Pin* 2. What do you do with...

Re: Best place for thru-hulls
Thanks, imjustinbraun , and everyone. It was interesting and informative reading. I think it should be considered established (cast in granite ...or was it bronze?) that central area in the cabin of M26X (red lines) is, against the impression and popular belief, is not attached to the outer hull dir...

Re: M26X. Outboard. Control box, cables, wiring -- how to restore/repair/build new?
Confirming: the reason for control handle acting up was improper configuration, after we changed it from "pull for throttle" to "push for throttle", handle started to work OK. Control hand in neutral, configured "pull for throttle" (Mercury) -- wherever the handle goes,...

Interesting mod, I need one like this, but could your please explain this: jam cleats that I drilled out the underside of the cleat the same size of the rope to allow the rope to release when ground is struck. So far I don't see how vertical pull on either of the ropes would release it from the clam...

Re: Honda BF50D
Sorry, no Honda data. But here is my (rough) measurements of mounting holes for 1995 Evinrude 70 hp, which are also good for (unknown year) Mercury Bigfoot 50hp. This similarity makes me think there is some kind of standard. Upper pair of holes, horizontal distance: 12.9" Lower pair of holes, h...
