Blue Hull owners-What color is your canvas?
We just ordered an '08 M with a blue hull. I'm looking for opinions for the canvas color with a blue hull.
What looks good against the blue? The blue doesn't look like a real dark navy, so I'm wondering what colors complement it. A nice hunter green would have been a cool color.
I wish the Mac had better interior colors. The beige looks so boring. Too bad Roger didn't use some blue inside.

Hi Russ.
I like Navy Blue. It provides a nice contrast against the factory blue. Black looks good as well.
Red looks great on the white Mac but not real sure about it on the blue though.
There are a lot of neat soft canvas products available. Just make sure they are built in Sunbrella or the colors may not match if you buy from multiple vendors.

Hi Russ,
Congratulations on your purchase! Popular canvas colors seem to be white, black, and pacific blue (lighter than the M's cobalt blue color). There are lot's of pic's in the mod's section on this site, many more if you just google "Macgregor 26M".
FWIW - my mainsail cover is pacific blue sunbrella. I'll also be purchasing a white bimini top.
Cheer's

some ref's:
Pacific Blue (methinks) - On Edit: It's Royal Blue - Parrothead corrected me below.

I suffer from Malspectraphobia
so I went with all blue accesories. Pacific Blue is the most common blue shade out there, you can even get the fenders in pacific blue. I have the sail cover and bimini in pacific blue also, ditto for the Davis sticky bags and dock lines; pacific blue. Also replaced a few of the running rigging lines with blue or blue tracers. There are just more accessories available out there in pacific blue so that is the shade I went for, besides given time the sun should fade my blue hull to a pacific blue.
As for the interior, navy and tan go quite well together, my wife had a very good set of curtains custom made in navy and tans, added some toss pillows and queen size comforter of the same material to the mix and really created some atmosphere. A little creativity can do wonders for the interior especially when it entails a womans' touch!

Yea, gotta love the women. They can do magic whereas generally we men as a group tend to have no sense for such things. The marketing materials for the Mac make the interior look so sterile. They should have had a woman do some magic before sending in the photographer.Terry wrote:As for the interior, navy and tan go quite well together, my wife had a very good set of curtains custom made in navy and tans, added some toss pillows and queen size comforter of the same material to the mix and really created some atmosphere. I personally prefer Royal Blue sunbrella -- it has some black threads mixed in, so it is darker than Pacific Blue and therefore, to my eye [and my Admiral's], is a better match for the blue of the M26 hull.

Currie,
I hadn't followed the link on your post before sending my reply - now I see that you used the same photo from my bimini mod listing [but you guessed wrong about the color].
Really, any color that appeals to you is the right one

Here's a good close-up of Sunbrella fabric in Royal Blue http://www.websweeper.com/111777/sunbrella/4617.jpg and here is Pacific Blue http://www.websweeper.com/111777/sunbrella/4601.jpg

Hi Russ,
I'm away from home for another couple days, but I may have some photos that include Macs w/green or red sunbrella; I'll have to check. They were from the BWY rendezvous last year. IIRC, Duane Dunn (www.ddunn.org) has some photos on his site as well.
Personally, we're going to finish off our enclosure in black; simply because the dodger & bimini that came with the boat were black. I think there are pro's & con's to black, and if were starting from scratch, I would be open to alternative colours. The 2 biggest points about black in my mind are that it is the most common, and it is the hottest. The common I can live with, although I really enjoy seeing alternate colours. For us, one of the reasons for the full enclosure is to extend the season on both ends, so in my mind, the black will be an asset in helping out in the temperature department. By the same token, I know that white would be much cooler in the summer months. In that sense, something in between might be a nice compromise, but as I said in the beginning, we had black components to start with.
Hope that Helps, good luck with your decisions.
Regards,
Shane

I chose the Silver Sunbrella for my cockpit enclosure and cushion project which is now underway. I considered it to be the best compromize color to go with the black of hte original hull stripes and canvas colors. Silver also is an excellent choice for any shade or tone of blue.
Black in summer sun gets too hot to touch here in TX. Bird, spider and jet airliner droppings are too frequent here to consider white and the cleaning necessary for it. The Cadet Gray offered by Sunbrella looks dull and somewhat dirty next to the clean white and black of the X. I figure the Silver will not show dirt too much nor get so hot it can't be handled of sat upon any time of year.
I will use black welt cord in the seams where appropriate. In your case you could use the royal blue to pickup the hull color.
In the cabin, use blues, blacks, ambers, dark reds or darker greens to compliment the tans you already have.
I don't believe in and outside cabin colors have to integrate or compliment.

My "Parrothead Perfect Bimini" just arrived today from Overton's. Missed getting in before the price increase
Luckily, I ordered the right color with some help from above (in this thread
) - Pacific Blue, in my case. Matches my exisitng mainsail cover. Looks great. Won't know how it works until spring
Cheers,
~Bob
P.S. BTW - Overton's calls Sunbrella "Pacific Blue" just "Blue".
