I've seen and drooled over the fiberglass platform whose pics were posted by MSS and kmclemore in the thread 2008 Modification...I resolved to...? posted below (sorry, don't know how to do a link)
I know an artist in the area who's really good with fiberglass and showed him the plans. He claims he could build a mold and produce a number of such platforms. His price is $650--and he established it even before I sent him the link to the Swedish manufacturer.
Question is, is the price too steep? He justified it with the cost of materials, doing the spit-and-polish work (I would like it white, with rough anti-skid patches, like the 26X benches) the mold, etc. I don't know.
Once he has the mold, he can crank up additional clones.
Anyone else is interested at this price?

IMHO, that's a fair price if you end up with a finshed product that works, AND the mold. Otherwise, it's too much for such a simple product.
Almost all mfr. expect to regain their design and start up costs plus profit over time and more orders, not on the very first sale. Why should he be different?

While I think even $350 is steep, I'd at least consider it then myself. Otherwise I'll make my own platform. I was just this evening considering how to make a swim platform that extends from the port side of such a porch.
I got the idea from this conversation.
I'm sure he'd have other takers too - if he's reasonable
We can't make him be [said in the voice of Don Colreone] "reasonable"
But think of all the business he could have - or lose. We're all Macgregor MODIFYING UP THE YING YANG sailors. -Ultimately, We'll do it ourselves
- as we always have

Yeah, the factor here would be the shipping costs from Sweden. MSS, you might want to check them out, too.
I have a Mac spinnaker that I would be willing to trade for the platform, in principle, but let's look at the shipping costs firsts. Yours might be higher than mine.
Once I get this original, it would be way easier to make a mold for clones and I expect the price to go down, too. I'll talk to the guy this week, in case anyone else is interested. The platform is for a 26X. Wonder if it still matches the cockpit of an M.
I would still want to patch up the notches in the original, but that can be done easily
