I am beyond impressed with your taking of this from the speculation to the actual. Please post lots of pictures - for those of us who enjoy speculating on how we would do it. Again great work.
Great stuff Hvolkhart!! Love the galley. Does it still slide into the berth area? I think Jack Sparrow did that. I'm looking forward to seeing your ladder implementation. Keep us posted.
Quick question 'cause I can not get up in my boat to measure - does the old galley come out in one piece through the companionway or do you have to cut it up?, I think I would like to add a narrow hanging locker between the galley and the aft if I do this this summer.
Since we have not moved the original galley during our trips, it was decided to have the galley stationary. Also the galy needed to be more sturdy to provide more support for the freezer/fridge.
However i think it would be possible to have the Gally "movable" on the original rails.
yes, the galley fits through the companionway. even with the mast down i could manover the old galley to the rear.
Is there anyone out there who needs a almost original Mac M galley for free? (pick-ups are welcome)
we will have garbage day on Wednesday so please let me know.
Well, the “Boat modification season” is over. Now it’s time to do some sailing.
The stair mod has to be postponed till fall. So has the front berth.
The front berth will get also a bulk head with an opening for getting in. The plan is to attach curtains for more privacy.
So far we had her out and where testing the improved battery / freezer and we found that we have enough power to “survive” 2 days without recharging the battery.
The two lockers on each side of the bulk heads turned out to be a very valuable space. The one above the galley is being used for storing dry food (tee, coffee, spices...).
The one above the shelf is being used to store all the safety gear (horn, ditch bag, first aid…).
The locker underneath the galley turned out to be the preferred spot for “fresh” foot since it is close to the water line and therefore fairly cool. I was gluing (silicone) a “floor” out of fiberglass sheet in that compartment so it is separated from the bilge.
An additional locker was installed above the mirrored seat. This locker contains paperwork as well as the laptop. The cover panel was cut so next to the locker opening there is still room for the stereo and the radio. Pix to follow.
