Mac 25 Parts and Transom

Post by broth »

I recently put my boat back in the water after 6 years. I need to replace the hose from the floor of the cockpit to the transom. I also need a new small outboard motor.

Can anyone tell me a source for parts-the hose I need.

How about a recommendation on an outboard motor brand.

Last question: R/T thrust what is the limit on HP that I should put on the transom?

Thanks

Bill

Not more than 10 hp on the transom. A 2-stroke is lighter, but I have an older Honda 4-stroke. On the hose: I found a radiator hose at an auto supply store. Figured that if it would hold hot water under pressure, it would hold back a little cold water. Don't get one with a spring inside.

Agree with just getting something off the shelf for the cockpit drain hose. For the OB, I recommend a 9-10 hp, longshaft/sailshaft is a must, obviously.

Radiator hose is in my M25.
I have a 8hp Merc and although I very rarely use it a full throttle I wish I had gone for one with an alternator to charge my batteries. You certainly don't need anything more powerful than a 10HP and be sure the bracket is appropriate for both the weight and torque of the motor you choose (4 stroke having considerably more than a 2 stroke with equal HP).
