Fastest speed today

Post by Ron »

Today I achieved my fastest speed under sail on the Mac26x in the 3-years I have owned it. I recorded 6.4 kts on my GPS as a top speed. The wind was about 15 kts, and I had full main and 80% of my furling Genoa out. I sailed close-hauled through a broad reach. I know others have reported much higher speeds, but this is the best I've seen in my boat.

Cheers.

I hit 6.8 knots in 12-15 mph winds, with the jib last week. My mate got sick. I never really got it all together, before I had to turn in. There was a lot of opportunity to go faster.

Sorry Ron, I wrote my thread before I saw yours - - - I didn't mean to one up you (if it did).

Hey you guys with :macm: 's sailing with just a genny, I'm told that is not a good practice IN A STRONG WIND and you stand a good chance of breaking off the mast if you have no backstay :( :o :? The genny is connected 5 feet below the top of the mast and brings great sideways torque if the main is not up :?: :?:

Rick :) :macm:
