The vang supplied by my dealer with my 26M is in fact a set of blocks just like the mainsheet set - one end has a spot to pin it to the base of the mast, and the other has the pin and the cam cleat.
The cam cleat end goes up at the boom, so it is kind of upside-down compared to the mainsheet.
The factory was a little cheap on the line, mine was barely long enough. So, I bought replacement line that is long enough to give a few feet of extra even when the vang is extra loose. Rather than going up on deck or fairleading the vang line back to the cockpit, I find that with this bit of extra line I can reach to adjust the vang by stepping down into the cabin and sliding the hatch forward a bit - far safer than climbing on top of the cabin.
