Manson Supreme
In preparing our boat for a trip to Bahamas,I have the advice of a regular Bahamas cruiser ringing in my ears" Get a serious anchor, and a serious dinghy." Dinghy is all set, although the Honda 2 may need an upgrade.
On to the anchor,I got a Manson Supreme 25lb,and 5/16 chain.
Trying to avoid reinventing the wheel,I'm wondering if anyone has ever figured out how to graft one of these onto a 26M?

Re: Manson Supreme
Dan, when are you going to add extra ballast tanks to the stern of the boat! With that anchor, chain, and your water tank in the bow, you may just be the first to sink an M

Hi Dan
You could do something like this, both my anchors weigh in at over #35
you would have to add backing plates & a renforcement support bar as I did, but it takes a Whole lota time & work

you can go to my photobucket site & see the step by step process

We have a Brig Baltic 310 dinghy. 10'4",hard floor,92 lbs. It's a great dinghy, but I may get something smaller for using around NE. Tows very nicely though, considering the size.Captain Jim wrote:KayakDan,

Ok,so maybe the 50 ft of 5/16" G4 is a bit much around here.Paul S wrote:Dan, when are you going to add extra ballast tanks to the stern of the boat! With that anchor, chain, and your water tank in the bow, you may just be the first to sink an M
Don't forget we're carrying 24gal of fuel sometimes and all our stuff is in the rear berth-and we got stuff!

John,I get tired just thinking of how much work that rig would take!Highlander wrote:Hi Dan

I'm thinking of a stainless bar off the bottom of the bow pulpit, with a rig to support the anchor. Would probably stow the anchor on the deck when trailering. Also,I would add a longer bow roller, and reinforcing plates.
I can't imagine I would do all this, but the Bahamas is really worth it!

Hi Dan ,
Found this it is an 26X but should fit an 26M dont know where you could buy one ! it also allows for a second forestay and would be fairly simple to add on

John,
That's a great idea, and pretty close to what I had in mind. Thanks for posting that. Pretty sure this will be a custom fabrication,as I'm in uncharted territory.
Might even be able to move the furler outside the pulpit, but maybe that's a little ambitious!

I have a Mason supreme anchor and it makes my CQR look worthless. We love ours.

That anchor roller/bowsprit is also foldable did you notice that the bobpole is hinged top & bottom & where it attaches to the bowpupit , so it can be stored in the vertical poss. when needed like mine , Also notice it has a set of adjustable SS
tangs under the furler !
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee20 ... 010104.jpg
[also if you added one of these large quick release levers like I did on my mac19, here I was able to move my genny out 3ft by just adding one of these QRL under my furler on my raised bowsprit using the original forestay so I could move it to either poss. by just adding or removing the QRL
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j95/m ... 010009.jpg
or you could add a couple of strong SS backing plates under you furler or forestay that will allow you to move your genny out also and will raise it at the same time killing two birds with one stone as they say as I did here to allow for easier pinning of my harken 00AL furler, these SS backing plates are I beleive are only three inches long I'll have to check , so once you've installed your roller/sprit bring your furler/forestay out to the desired distance & measure the length required underneath to your pinning point by adding the extension underneath you are able to use the same forestay ! saving money or add another forestay or furler to cutter rig her but you'll need to modify your rigging for that like I did

When I was in QC in May down in the harbour at the old city I seen a 26/28 ft sail boat in the parking / storage lot area with something simular & was home fabricated wish I had taken pic's now, maybe Q1 can go down & take a stroll & see if she is slipped down their I would think she would be with being stored their for the winter ! & post some pic's, the boat looked simular to these one's in this pic I believe
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee20 ... 010043.jpg
and was in the lot on the other side of the water behind this blue building
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee20 ... 010044.jpg
I'm sure Q1 will know were this is now !. I'll be up in QC next wk-end if I have a chance & time I'll see if I can find this boat again

Re: Manson Supreme
John, thanks for all the info. After doing some measuring,I think the best way to go is an extension off the pulpit, that the anchor can hang on,with the shank on the bow roller. It would most likely attach to the pulpit, with a support on the bow, similar to your setup. I will be checking on having this fabricated. And since I'm having this done,an beefy crossbar with a tang would allow the genoa to be moved outside the pulpit easily, using a quick release to take up the added length.
Rich, thanks for the encouraging words. Sometimes this little project seems a bit "over the top",but I know how important it will be for going South.
