26M Dock Height.
Hi, I am buying a Macgregor 26M next year. I am going to keep it in a slip for the summer. I am going to build a new dock. How high should the dock be from the water surface to comfortably go in and out from the boat? Thanks for your advice.

Re: 26M Dock Height.
I pulled into a visitor slip at one marina where I had to climb up from my boat onto the dock as the dock was higher than my cockpit combing!
Since you are going to build it, perhaps a height halfway up from the waterline to the cockpit combing might be sufficient enough to step over, or maybe as high as the rub rail so that you can step onto the boat anywhere along the deck from your dock. Must be nice to be able to plan a custom built dock.

Re: 26M Dock Height.
Terry,
I will not have the boat until next year. What is the distance in inches from the waterline the cockpit? Thank you.

Re: 26M Dock Height.
My M is in the back yard and I just measured for you.
Waterline to rub rail (at midpoint of cockpit) is 33".
Rub rail to top of cock pit coaming (at mid point of cockpit) is 14"
Waterline to rub rail (at mid point of bow) is 42"
If I were making a dock, I would make it so the rub rail can mate up against the dock to save the hull from scratches.
At our slip on Lake Michigan, the dock is a good step up (sometimes two, pending water levels) and we have a ladder to climb up on the dock for additional safety reasons (not the greatest). Good thing is the boat just goes up against two wood pilings and rub rail takes all the bumping. We have bumpers hanging down the pilings as additioanl protection. In two summers not one scratch on the hull yet.

Don't forget to take the tides into account. Depending on where you are they can make a big difference. I spent a few days at the Coast Guard station at Cape May, NJ and soon discovered that the dock I could step out on when I arrived was 20 feet above my deck just a few hours later.
