Hardcrab,
I saw that pic. That is NOT what I have. My PO must have had it removed and had an anchor roller installed. I thought that was standard. I hook my furler to the anchor roller.
I will be flying back to the U.S. on 16 May for a week of "boat projects" I will take some pictures.
Cheers,
Jim

Man, that is one long foretang/chainplate in the pictures, must be all of six inches above the rub rail!Hardcrab wrote:c130,
On this site, go up to the resources tab, manuals, 2003 M, scroll down to page 11 upper left and/or page 15 upper right.
Both pictures show the exact same set-up as my 05, but (strangly?) without an anchor roller installed.
(I have a CDI furler that this picture dosen't show, it shows only the forestay and hank on jenny).
A somewhat poor picture, but it shows the forestay "chain plate" sticking above the deck, and you can just make it out
as it extends below the rub rail then out of the field of view. The text further describes the whole deal.
I'm sure it must be the same with your boat, and my attempt at a description further up this post leaves something to be desired.
Maybe you have proved that the anchor roller will hold the stress of the rigging if you have been pinning it there,
but I would'nt try it that way on my boat unless I needed a quick and dirty jury rig one day.
In that light, thanks for the tip?!?
They must have been in too much of a hurry to get the new 26M out on the market because they forgot to install the anchor roller that they clearly mentioned in the article about the differences between the X & M. They forgot on my 2003 M so I went back to the dealer and argued to get it installed which he did. I see the mast raising baby stays are somewhat different too as they incorporate the use of chainplates which I do not have.
The anchor roller had better be secured very well especially if you are John (highlander) and plan to use it as a bowsprit holder for a spinnaker. Mine has a couple of large bolts holding it to the deck, I will go have a look and see how it is backed underneath since I hope to copy Johns spinnaker rig in the future. While I am at it I should put in a big U-bolt in the anchor locker for a solid rode end connection.
I cannot imagine that a PO could even remove that foretang let alone think about it, why would anyone do that?

As you can see in one of the pic's above the anchor roller is secured with large body washers I think a 1/4 Alum backing plate maybe in order for the bowsprit pole but will have to wait until Beene's boat shows up at my place to try it out for strength ! , but a backing plate is no big deal as it is an accessable area

Re: forstay clevis pin
The anchor roller wasn't standard equipment until mid 2004, I believe. In any event, my early (hull #19) 2003 did not have one, but the dealer supplied that and a mast cap (also lacking) in 2004 upon request - no charge.Hardcrab wrote:c130,

Yep, Thats the one that came with my 07M, now I have a bent mast.Dont know why it came undone. We raised the mast and when we started to pull the boat on the trailer about 30 yards to the ramp, down came the mast. Now I have to get a new mast.I will use a bolt and locknut from now on.WHRoeder wrote:Those quick pins Will pull out. You MUST use a clevis pin and ring ding. The only thing that kept my mast up was the furling line.1st Sail wrote:It appears the forestay mount or connection point has changed between years. My '06 M has Coupler safety pin connected to a short stainless cable.

I'm not convinced this is totally safe.
