yeah, that was awesome. Its hard to imagine for a newb like me, that someone would want to go out in something like that. i bet they got a great workout. I wonder what your pulse rate would be, while seated even.

Re: The high wind video is up
wow oh wow. Cool to watch but I think I'll pass. Loved the shot of Anthem too. I swear the last picture I saw of her she was white.
Re: The high wind video is up
If I was caught in those conditions I would hopefully be using the motor and have the sails down. The mac looked like it was taking it in stride and shows how macs tend to stay on top of the water like a cork rather than plowing into the waves. Interesting.

Re: The high wind video is up
That's great!
Roger just knows what to do to keep his boat interesting.
This boat is one of the best if not the best engineered lightly rigged trailer sailors around, and hats off to Mike for his bravado. It's nice to know my boat can take that kind of a pounding but I will do like Hart and pass unless I have too!
I showed the pics to some friends and they were impressed by what my lightly rigged 2,000lb trailer sailor can do. The regular sailors always drool over the Honda 50 and the fact we don't sleep in the Salon in a 26 footer.
Notice this was done with the faster more dangerous blue hulled
and Of course you shouldn't try this with a white hulled MacGregor

The only Mac26M I've seen with a cutter rig that can fly up to 3 head sails & 2 Spinnakers at the same time has a White Hull I'd like to see your Blue Hull under sail try & catch that Baby ever heard of "White Lighting" so when you see something with a 4ft bowsprit & a 6ft spin pole attached out in front of that, with flaming Skulls on the bow coming at you be prepared for a "White Flash"
that will burn off the blue paint
thus reveiling that their is something White underneath
You see Roger recommends & offers the slower Blue Hull to beginners "new sailors" & how do you know when they have turned into "real sailors" is when they have sailed the boat fast enough to wash off that ugly looking blue paint
See Ya
PS The reason the Blue Hull is more dangerous is because their is a beginner behind that Wheel
And the reason Roger used a Blue Hulled 26M for this video is because he was shooting it from a slow blue hulled Mac 70M , if he had used the faster White Hulled 26M he would have had to use a high speed camera from the air using a hellicopter & we all know Roger is way too cheap to do that !

Re: The high wind video is up
John,
What I meant to say was don't try this if you have a white hulled M unless it's the An Hileanto'ir III
I've got to watch out cause I know I will be racing this guy sometimes in the future
and he'll notice my motor is running
as I pass him under sail. I have been known to let a racing sailor get ahead of me ..then motor sail up to him from far away enough to the lee so he can't see the motor going , and pass him, haul my sails down , circle him under power and leave him behind in the dust at WOT.
Q1
p.s. As the owner of the only Mac in our marina,I am known as one of the fastest sail boats in the marina...cause most of the regular sailors haven't noticed the motor quietly helping out .

Re: The high wind video is up
If you watched closely you would have noticed that the Mac was taking most of those waves abeam or at a slight angle. If it was taking the waves bow first you would likely have seen some serious submarining! I have buried my bow on a few occasions and the water comes right up to the forward windows. She does plow if you head straight into the waves but not as much as some boats, she does have enough lift to put you at some ease but don't kid yourself about floating like a cork.jamis1970 wrote:If I was caught in those conditions I would hopefully be using the motor and have the sails down. Just ask John, (Highlander) he goes out in that stuff regularly!
It was not a very long video, they should have got more footage and closer up.

Re: The high wind video is up
It's a great video. The thing is, the sails actually help keep it stable. Motor alone the boat would probably really be bobbing around.jamis1970 wrote:If I was caught in those conditions I would hopefully be using the motor and have the sails down. As noted, the waves were from the side which probably helped keep it from surfing down them and then plowing into the next one. It's very interesting to watch how the Mac just rises over them. Mike was there and IIRC he said the boat came back with a lot of salt on it so I'm thinking the footage of the boat plowing and creating a giant splash wasn't in this edit.
It's very cool to see a lightweight trailer sailor in such conditions. I give Mike credit because I wouldn't be out there on purpose.

Re: The high wind video is up
On a side note, is it just me or does the factory website need some revamping. I guess it's supposed to mirror the brochure, but the colors, navigation, structure..I don't know the whole thing looks cheap and doesn't flow well online.
Roger, I'll hook you up if you need a web designer.

Dorothy wake up, your dreaming, the blue hull is faster, better looking, and by far a better version than the standard white hull. Thats why Roger used it. Ask Mike he knows the truth.

Where do I find it? Do I have to watch the full 50+ minute promotion video?

Russ,
I agree, the Macgregor web site is in need of a refresh and revamp. There is some good information there but the design is dated.
Does not need to be flashed up, but some professional help would be nice.
