Where do you store second anchor?

Post by C Striker »

Hello,

I'm thinking about leaving the table down full time, but I keep my second anchor in a bucket under there. I'm looking for a safe place for that second anchor, keeping in mind that I trailer my :macm: . I'm toying with the idea of keeping the galley forward and doing the hinged steps thing, and eventually making the very cool aft bulkheads.

what say you?

We are getting a second anchor as well. Will be keeping it in an Anchor Bag.

I am sure that there are others - but we like the bag.... with a 26D, there is great place to store. May put a bag on front, as well....

We carry our Bruce on a bow roller, and a fortress on a bracket attached to the bow pulpit. Chain/nylon rodes for both anchors are stowed in the anchor locker. Duane Dunn uses this setup on Allegro, and has posted pictures in previous threads.

Highlander,
Could you post some side shots of your bow setup, on the trailer and also on the water?

We keep the Fortress on a bracket on the bow pulpit with a few feet of of chain and 75' of nylon rode in the anchor locker. It is usually adequate for most anchorages that we use. We also have a Spade attached to 30' of chain and plenty of nylon rode that we keep low near the centerline (under forward dinette seat) because I don't want the weight of the chain up high. We use that anchor if winds are high or if bottom conditions don't favor the Fortress. We also carry a small mushroom anchor in that location that we could use as a kellet if conditions are harsh.

The Claw lives on the bow roller with 150' total of chain/rode in the locker. Also in the same locker we keep a Danforth with 150' chain/rode. It all fits, but barely. I wish the locker was a bit larger.

We have a broken down Fortress anchor in our anchor locker (:macx:)

Primary anchor is a Bullwaga on a bow roller.

We also keep a mushroom anchor in the engine well for both kellet and rear 'anti-Mac-dance' anchor

I keep a 22lb Manson on an extended bow roller forward, and a danforth with 10 ft of chain, and a 100ft rode mounted in a pvc tube attached to the rear mast support bar on the port side. This allows for immediate deployment of an anchor at either end of the boat. Also eliminates lugging an anchor out of the salon and thru the cockpit.
Maybe this weekend I will get busy with my camera and shoot all the mods...maybe. :)

I am getting ready to make a mod that Bill at boats4sail recommended doing when I first got the boat. The primary will be hung somewhere around the starboard rear life line pole with the rode running along side the hull in a fashion that it will hopefully not get tangled and be snubbed off at the bow. The spare will then be in the locker along with the excess rodes and chains. This allows for immediate one person deployment of the anchor with at least 25 feet of scope, more depending upon the mounting method I have yet to devise. The anchor can be dropped and then using power backed away from to set it.
