FORWARD REVERSE
I HAVE A 2001 .50HP MARINER BIGFOOT ON MY 98X .THE F/R CONTROLS WERE INSTALED WRONG BY DEALER AS SELECTING REVERSE WOULD STRIKE THE STEERING WHEEL.I FIXED THIS BY TILTING THE CONTROLES FORWARD A FEW DEGREES AND RE DRILLING AND BOLTING.NOW FOR SOME REASON FORWARD WORKS FINE BUT REVERSE ALTHOUGH ALLOWES FULL MOVEMENT WILL ONLY REV MINIMAL.HAVE TRIED ADJUSTING BOTH CABLES UNDER CARBIES BOTH IN AND OUT WITH LIMITED SUCCESS. ANY SUGESTIONS BEFORE I CONTRIBUTE TO DEALERS RETIREMENT FUND. PETER.

Re: FORWARD REVERSE
When you say you adjusted them, did you go to the engine and watch the cable travel to see if it moved the "right amount". I remember an old bike I had and the shift mech got broke in a fall, when I twisted the shifter it moved the cable but because the "tubing" that the cable traveled through was no longer secure, the other end would not move properly. I would look to see if when you push the handle forward and you are pulling the cable to you that it moves out at the engine a certain distance. Then when you push it back and it doesn't move a similar amount, that perhaps the sheath that it travels through has come disconnected. I am not even sure what I just said is clear but I hope it makes sense.
