Re: 26X sails
Are there any thoughts for an enhanced sail like the musclehead being available for the X? I guess a back stay limits what we can put up

Re: 26X sails
David, Ray Brown (South Australia) made my jib, genoa and kite. Can't fault the quality or the price, all excellent.
The jib & genoa are made for the furler.
I think that It would be worth while trying Australian sail makers. You wouldn't have the exchange rate working against you, at least on the labour component.
Lets know how it works out.
Tks
C ya,

Yeah, that's been discussed elsewhere. But I'm pleased with Kelly-Hanson's C2000 main on mydavidbagnall wrote:Are there any thoughts for an enhanced sail like the musclehead being available for the X? I guess a back stay limits what we can put up
(Though now I'm wondering: Could twin running backstays make it work? Not that I'm going to try!)
Re: 26X sails
Not a lot we can do with the 26X I am afraid.
The backstay creates all kinds of issues.
We can't use a fat head because of clearance issues.
We have toyed with the idea of increasing girth but the rigging on the boat stretches over time and everyone uses different settings. It simply isn't worth it.
Right now the only real option is to move to a fabric that is more stiff which will provide a fixed-winged type effect. These would be your laminates: Pentex, Kevlar, etc. Of course there are two problems here. One is obviously cost. A Pentex main would be the least expensive but you are still looking at about $1,000.00. The other issue with laminates is longevity. Although they are gorgeous and make a boat sing, they will stretch sooner than Dacron and really should be taken down and stored after each use.
I am going to play around again this winter and see if I can figure something out that would be worthwhile as there certainly seems to be enough interest.

Re: 26X sails
i was toying with the idea of using a 26m mainsail as i have the 26m mast on my x.The swept back spreaders are an anoyance, they inhibit the swing of the sail.I also had the thought of moving the spreaders so that they swept outwards like the m but i was not sure what effect that would have on the strenght of the mast/rigging
