Hi all,
Just thought I'd post the mods I did to Bird Of Passage over winter.
First mod was to fit a headliner to the underside of the sliding hatch,
Then I fitted nylon strips to the edge of the hatch, to make it slide better
without leaving a white stain across the black window stripes.
Then before replacing the hatch,I fitted some teak woodwork around the hatch,
companionway entry, and on top of the cabin. This finished off the hatch improvements really well.
Then the trailer, I've never liked the bump/stop method of getting the boat further onto the trailer, so I fitted a ALKO caravan stabilizer jack to the vertical post, just below the winch. Before I pull the boat onto the trailer I wind the jack in about 100mm,then pull the boat onto the trailer, drain the water, move the boat to the derigging area, then wind out the alko jack until it is firm against the bow of the boat
Regards Kevin.

Re: winter mods to my macgregor
Kevin the teak strips look great.
Were the nylon strips on the hatch the yellow tongue floor board inserts or something proprietary?
I'll be in Paynesville in September with WindSong. Maybe we can catch up sometime. David

Hi David,
Yes you picked it right about the yellow strips.
I just used liquid nails to hold it place .also very cheap to purchase,
I just drove around until I found a building site and got it out of there skip bin.
Regards Kevin.

Re: winter mods to my macgregor
What a great idea. Ive been looking for some because they are useful for threading electrical wire through various places including the boat but never thought of going to a building site skip. I noticed in Bunnings today that they have a rubbery soft material they sell by the metre. It works great as a non slip mat / table cover but was also thinking about its use as a headliner. It is similar in colour to the cabin FG liner but am not quite sure how you could attach it with adhesive without it squeezing up through the open mesh in it.
The YT strips would have raised the running edge a few mm. Would there be enough room with the existing white keepers or did you have to raise them? Are the TEAK strips on the sliding hatch sides just cosmetic or do they replace the white keepers? I could not see in the photo how the Teak is attached. David

Re: winter mods to my macgregor
Hi David.
I bought the material for the underneath of the hatch from SPOTLIGHT,
It is actually called HEADLINER, I used PVC glue to hold the material in place, it dries clear, but non came through anyway.
Regarding the teak woodwork, yes, it does replace the existing white keeper.
I had to cut a small rebate into the edge of the wood to allow for the yellow strip.
I will be in the WHITSUNDAYS all of September, but maybe we can catch up on my way home.
Regards Kevin.
