Why doesn't anyone make a port to replace the 26x winders???

Post by Gunkholer »

It gets waaaaay tooooooo hot below deck and I want ports but they're all too small to fit in place of the existing winders. Does someone make a port that I can take the windows out and replace without having major glasswork done or sticking inside the window as it sits?

Art if you're listening this would be a nicity!!!!

A little cross-wind coming into the salon would be great! (forward hatch just doesn't cut it.)

Hope this link works...

We are going to start carrying them when we open our new web site. West's price is obscene. We can get them now if anyone is interested.

A HUGE note of caution. I have seen these placed in small boats with an aft berth that runs under the cockpit like the Mac. They were installed on the side of the cockpit wall below the seats to provide air and light. This can be a real hazard if the cockpit takes on water and the ports are inadvertently left open when underway.

They are pretty nice and can be installation is relatively straight forward.

Lewmar also makes them. Better overall quality but they are pricey.

TIA,

I've had a pair of ports on my M for five years. I don't see why they would not work on an X.

I really should try to get a picture from inside the salon area.

Thanks everyone...another option I did find after some additional research was at Rutgerson (in Sweden) they seem more of a direct swap for the current windows size wise (27.56" x 7.52")
http://www.rutgerson.se/default.asp?id= ... 2&Group=91
They qouted me $438.00 with screens... + shipping. I just have a problem ordering something that I have not seen in person & am not 100% sure of the material (chrome) ?

I did also find this site: http://www.newfoundmetals.com/catalog/pg02.html for 26" x 7" in stainless...looks pretty good
SS would be a more durable choice. The West Marine option of 21" X 10" tall seems too tall to me??? Has anyone put that size on an X? Would LOVE to see a pic if they have! :)

Looking at the weight of them - 2.5 kg is about 5½ pounds - and the finish choices of "chrome" of "off white" ... they may be plastic or composite frames, like the Beckson ports from West Marine. Did you ask them about the materials?

Newfound Metals advertises in Cruising World, and various bits of "chatter" I've seen in their pages would give me to believe they make quality stuff. (At the price of their stainless-steel ports, it had better be quality stuff!)

26" x 7" would be a hull of a big opening port, though, and a pair of those would provide lots of ventilation! 8)
(But I'm afraid it would ventilate the hull out of your wallet, too!)
