2010 Macgregor 26M with 90 HP Fourstroke
2010 Macgregor 26M with 90 HP Fourstroke
Hi,
I recently bought a Macgregor and had a 90 HP fourstroke fitted. IMHO opinion I this this combination is perfect. There is power, speed, fuel economy and reserve for whatever you need. I have heard doubts expressed on this and other forums about performance issues of 50 HP motors in situations of load, advertised speed and water sports etc. With a 90 HP there are no issues like this I have found I get everything that I hoped I would get
I had also heard the arguments regarding the weight issues of larger engines which still confuses me. Some Macgregor dealers highly recommend and fit Suzuki 70 HP fourstroke engines........http://www.bwyachts.com/Engine%20Choices.htm If one looks at the specs of this engine and pays special attention to the weight of 156 KGS....(http://www.boatsplus.com.au/suzuki-outb ... _1764.html)...... Then look at........http://www.boatsplus.com.au/outboard-mo ... d_252.html again look at the weight of 163 KGS but this time for a 90HP, I felt that for the 7 KGS weight difference I may as well have the extra 20 HP.

Re: 2010 Macgregor 26M cost details
J: Great information, but what dealership is Jim Allred associated with?
I appreciate it when people post the great deals they found but need to know where to look just as much as who to talk with

Hi Again,
I found that sticking with the smaller private dealers gave me a better deal as their overheads were not as high. Jim was great for that

Re: 2010 Macgregor 26M cost details
jj your through the most difficult parts... Those in my opinion where, to make the finally decision on which boat you wanted and from whom should you purchase it .As you found and may no doubt hear there are numerous quality dealers for this boat. Most have our favorite and some ...some wish the had THAT CHOICE to make again.
IMHO sailing is like numerous other activities i have been involved with.... You learn the basics rather quickly and can if you so desire, spend much of the rest of your life perfecting your skill's and abilities. You'll find I am confident, that sailing shall be a similar experience and that's why we have the Mods section
among others.

JJAN, I am in Kingsville sailing out of Thames River Yacht Club in Lighthouse Cove with a 2008 26M. I would like to meet up with you for storage and shelving ideas. Maybe a Mac Regatta?. E-mail at: deleted by moderator per board policy - use PM function instead

Re: 2010 Macgregor 26M cost details
Congratulations! I, too, have just purchased but will not take delivery for another three weeks or so. That's going to be a long three weeks. I noticed you have listed a front boarding ladder. Was that a factory option I didn't see or was it offered by your dealer? Seems it might be safer with young kids to have them getting back onboard somewhere other than through the transom and past the OB. I can picture a pretty good scrape from the prop if they were to slip.

I've been boating on Lake St. Clair on a classic Boston Whaler for about 45 years but am considering a MacGregor 26 as a new enthusiast -- Do you know if there is a fleet of MacGregors on Lake St. Clair that casually meet/race? Thx. Ron

Ron .. You are way out of my area geographically but I'll venture
that there are very few Mac M and X racing groups. The cruising boats don't sail that well , in short.
The earlier mac models like the 26S and D are raced of course

The 90 will work great....I have a 50. I hit about 16 kts if I am not loaded down. The problem is to make sure when you are crusing that your motor is running at the proper RPMs....My 50 runs at 5500 RPMs However I had to get a new prop. My old prop would lug the motor. But with the new prop the motor runs fine. But at low RPMs I scarafice control.....Have fun!

Ck this site, and others on Utube .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eovBozRo5gg
When viewing, note the Mac.X chase boat has a 90 hp and went by the M with the Etec 90.
Both boats were heavy loaded, the Chase boat didn't give weight so do not consider, tho it did catch up on the M very quickly.
