Well it's time to try something different.

A Mac Nationals

Where: Albury-Wodonga Yacht Club on Lake Hume.
When: Melbourne Cup Weekend 31 Oct to 03 Nov 09.
What: Join in with the Rose Festival Regatta for 2 days for some racing, then some cruising/lazing/learning for another 2 days.

I think that this is a novel approach to trying to get the maximum number of Macs together for a bit of fun. Even if you don't race, come on down and just have some fun. I'm looking forward to trying a bit of donuting off the back of the Mac. Being inland sailing, it's pretty rare to get big winds, making it easy sailing for all.

The club runs a dinner on the Saturday night, which runs a pretty good function at a good price.

Can I get some ideas about what sort of activities people want to do on the Monday /Tuesday.

I'll be travelling up to the Yacht Club on the Friday afternoon, so if you want to come late on the Friday I can arrange for us to be let in.

I go through Albury quite frequently and have never bothered to go out to the Hume because everyone says its nearly empty. I gather there must still be a reasonable waterway there!

when full Lake Hume has the same volume as four Sydney Harbours. Currently it's 24% and rising at around 1.5% a week.

They don't start pulling the plug on it for irrigators until late October. I was hoping for at least 50 % to enable us to cruise down to the town of Tallangatta, but that seems unlikely unless we get the proverbile 40 days and 40 nights of rain. We'll still have ample for a bit of cruising no matter what.

Greetings all,
well the Nationals are but a fortnight away, I'm hoping that I won't be alone

The water level is up to 36% and rising fast, but not fast enough to get to the 50% we would need to take a long cruise down to Tallangatta.

But all is not lost, there will still be at least 20km of lake to play with.

Don't worry if your not inclined to race, just come along and have a good laugh at us who try to. For those who have never raced before and want to give it a crack, I can certainly provide some good coaching / hints on how to get around the course and not embarrass yourself too much.

We'll have a good time each night sitting around and chatting about the most important point in life, our Macs

My thoughts are to join in / watch the racing Saturday and join in with the club's dinner that night. Sunday would have some more watching / racing, with possibly a phone hook up and an attempt to have one of the quarterly meetings of the Mac Association. Monday would be a bit of show and tell of bits and ideas from the more experienced to those with a want to know, followed by a cruise to an overnight destination. Tuesday would be a cruise back to the club, pack up and go home around lunchtime. Those who want to stay on will need to let me know in advance so I can work some arrangement with the Yacht Club's Commodore for gate access to get your car out.

I am really looking forward to this, and hope that as many Macs as possible can make the trek to Lake Hume and have a top 4 day weekend

I will be travelling up on the Friday afternoon arriving that night. The gate to the club is a good 7-800m from the clubhouse (long walk) . The club will most likely not let me leave the gate open, so you will need to PM me and get my mobile number to give me a ring when you get there. If you are coming up on Saturday the gate will be left open, making it even easier.

If you want anymore details, just let me know. I know the area well, as I was a member of Albury-Wodonga Yacht Club for some 10 years.
