Boat Insurance for Canadians going to Florida and Bahamas

Post by Québec 1 »

I have to renew my boat insurance in January but my insurer does not insure for Florida and I am going to Florida at the end of feb beginning of march. Are there any Canadians who can clue me into a reasonably priced insurance compay who covers Florida?

I have coverage with Skippers from Toronto. They are Brokers for Aviva. They covered me for transportation from Colorado. I have a call into them and will let you know if they will provide coverage.

My coverage seems reasonable.

Good post ... and timely.

I was considering other documentation as well.

We towed to Boston last spring and saw the Volvo Around the World rocketships.
Just the normal passport, vehicle and boat ownership were requested.

As I recall, there was a thread posted last summer, highlighting new ID requirements to cross Canadian - American border by sea.
Presumably these would not apply, if you are trailering.

Hi Québec,

Since you are renewing your insurance, you might also want to check policydog.com because they provide insurance for all kinds of boats. You are taking the boat to Florida, so their agents will help you in getting insurance there. You can get an instant quote on the website and compare prices. They are also friendly and provide good service, and if you want you can buy boat insurance online any time of day.

Found insurance for my Canadian Boat through Osborn & Lange insurance brokers a St Paul travelers insurance policy which will ensure me for 1 year with Florida and Bahamas for 6 weeks for 850$. A steep climb from 400$ annually I actually pay but worth it for the trip to West End Bahamas.

If you don't mind me asking, can you please update the info on this topic? My brother needs help with the insurance. GBWhatsApp APK
He is confused between the Aviva and Intact insurance. Which one is reliable according to you guys? I'm not from Canada so i don't have a clue about them. Any help is much appreciated.

Holy thread revival Batman!!

We have ours insured with Portside Marine Insurance. Don't know about insuring specifically for down south, but they are boat specific and offer (at least for us) much better rates than what was mentioned in the thread, so your brother might want to give them a try.

I'm with Certas Home and Auto Insurance which I believe are the underwriters. Desjardins is the broker. Surprisingly cheap.

I am not canadian but i can give you some information about this matter...
Finding boat insurance that covers Florida can be tricky, especially if your current insurer doesn't provide coverage there. You might want to check out Canadian insurance companies that offer policies covering boating in the U.S., such as Premier Marine Insurance or Northstar Marine Insurance. It's also a good idea to ask for recommendations from fellow boaters who have experience traveling to Florida. They can offer firsthand advice on reliable and reasonably priced insurance options.
