bimini

Post by iredrider1177 »

hello all. just purchased my first sailboat ever!! been reading this site for about a year now and found the mac on here, drove all the way to oklahoma to get it! i keep it in a shop at my home and have been fittting it out all winter now as it didnt come with anything , all stock. i have no clue how to sail yet...but am an avid boater but im hooked on this boat like never before, now that ive laid this out on my sleeve ive got a question i cant seem to find exactly what im looking for in these archives, what size /type bimini top goes on this boat.?wheres the best place to get one? and having gotten one, is there anything you would do different now after the fact? any help is much appreciated. :? id like to have everything ready to go by april and would like to get it ordered.

I also have the soft topper bimini. Its worked well...but now that I'm looking at extending my season I have been looking at the Dowsar full enclosure.

If you think you will ever get a full enclosure then look at the dowsar bimini, if not, then the soft topper is good quality.

When ordering from them they've always checked with me to see which I have, and even rechecked. On the bottom of the bimini page it says to specify which boat you have so I'm assuming that they have both. I've called a few times and they've been very helpful...

And I hear yu on costs, I'd love a full enclosure too but ouch!

Welcome Aboard.
You may enjoy getting the Factory Video, it's a nice overview of this boat with some good points of advice.

Happy Sailing/motoring/camping/and so many other things that can be done with a Mac !

Good Luck with your new :macm: . Hope you find the bimini you're looking for with the help of everyone here. I'm a little curious about where you drove from, "to Oklahoma" , to pick up your Mac ? I believe there's a good story in all of that venture, even if it's just a paragraph or two. Most of us here like to read about stuff like that as it fondly reminds us of the time we first went to pick up our Mac's. According to your post you are now officially MACATIZED ! Got any Pic's ?

I installed the Overton bimini recommended on this forum. It has worked very well and the price was good. I found a discount code on the internet for 20% off that helped with the purchase.

The bimini is wide and covers the width of the cockpit. Comes with a cover too. I installed my on slides mounted on the outside edge of the Mac.

Good luck, Ron :macm:

The cool thing about the Dowsar is that you can stand up under it--yet it stays up while sailing. My bimini is too short! I want a tall one like the Dowsar but wow they are expensive. I would even settle for one with aluminum instead of stainless. Anyone have an affordable bimini that is tall like the Dowsar that will fit on an X?

The Dowsar enclosure is big as seen here

This is one one the best mods that doubles the living space on your boat !

The bwy enclosure is smaller & alum frame but @ half the price is a good buy & a lot better than nothing ! or just a bimini

Hey,iredrider, looks like we're gonna be neighbors. We will be moving to Apple Valley in May. Maybe we can help you through the "Macgregor learning curve".
Where will you be sailing your boat?

we were thinking of starting our learning curve at atwood lake as it is the closest lake that sailing is common around here, the issue with that though is they have a horspower limit of 25, we still need to purchase a motor yet, as there was a 6hp johnson on it. so we may be doing seneca or sandusky bay otherwise depending on what motor we settle with.and next winter florida. i have a few coworkers that live in apple valley, the way i understand it is that you have to own property in that development to have acess to that lake? can anyone tell me how to attach a picture on here?

photos must be a link to a web page. find your photo on Flickr etc,you may have to resize it,click on properties and right click to "copy"
on the top of the reply window, you will see "Img". click on image and place your photo by putting the cursor between the two ][ gates . right click to paste, hit preview to check it and then submit.

You are right about Apple Valley lake,it has access to residents only, but it's really too small for the 26M anyways-at least for me. Have never seen Atwood Lake, bit it looks good on the website.

We are putting our boat on a slip at Catawba Island-and I will pretend it's the ocean. From what I'm told,it becomes an ocean when the wind blows. :D

Welcome Ired and congrats. I think I know the boat from OK that you bought, with just the fact that it has a 6ph hanging on the rear :) If it's the same one you got a good buy 8) I have the Overton Bimini, looks nice (it was on the boat when I bought it with the label still attached).
