50 States Gun Laws
There was some discussion a while back on gun carry laws for those wishing to travel with a firearm and it seemed no one had a complete answer for various states and the right to travel while packing. This site may help. http://www.gunlawguide.com I truly hope MacGregor Sailors never have the need arise to have to defend yourself or your loved ones. Rob

Re: 50 States Gun Laws
A thought, just a thought...while State Gun laws apply with in the various States, I feel that many sailors may be using waters controlled by Federal Laws. Especially inland sailors. And possibly Coastal sailors in Fed Wetland areas or Fed wildlife areas. I live in Ky and have a permit to Carry Concealed. On the water I am fine and if I land on the State control lands/landings, no problem. But in the middle of the two lakes is Land Between the Lakes, National Park so landing at a dock there or being within 200' ft of their shore line puts me in violation Federal laws where firearms are not allowed in National Forests (lands/waters). Maybe being picky but something to think about.

Re: 50 States Gun Laws
My concern would be more on an international level. The Admiral and I like to charter. In fact, we both feel it is the best sort of vacation. With the outbreak of piracy, I sure would feel much safer packing a firearm. I don't currently own one, but have decent experience at firing ranges with my brother. Anyhow, I figure it is virtually impossible to legally have a firearm in foreign waters. It is when I would actually want one.

Actually British Columbia Canada is probably safer than WA state except for bears.

national forests have no restrictions on firearms, infact out west they are a haven for gun owners.national parks used to have restrictions but the laws have recently changed on some parks.

Re: 50 States Gun Laws
each destination has local.state and federal laws...... and most vary.legally have a firearm in foreign waters
as far as overseas.....most civilized countries which have ports including (OZ and NZ if you stop there) have bonding requirements when your boat is in port. Typically arranged through customs or the local police. Ships which operate on the open ocean have somwhat looser requirements . many years ago, 10+, the Armada De Mexico naval infantry checked frequently (we were a slow sailboat) but having all the paperwork from each port in order seemed to help for a rifle and shotgun. Also we did not have any prohibited calibers or weapons (A distinct no no in mexico)
Uncivilized locations.......well........ I dont think I will be stopping there(except in canada). I am kind of a fan of pumped gelled gasoline to greet unwanted borders.
FOr canada, I think I cam going to apply for Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) for our trips up the inside passage and around prince rupert. That is good for 5 years. Tho I would love to hunt waterfowl up there...... taking a sailboat up in the fall just to hunt is probably not a wise idea. for mooring up close and personal with the bears.... (bears that weigh 1/2 what the mac weighs) I will register a rifle up there and carry it onboard. on earlier trips......a single report was enough to discourage those moochers.

Leave HANDGUNS home visiting our fine Northern Friends in the Land of the Maple Leaf. Even if you are LEO, they are not welcome.

I meant places like the Indian Ocean, South Pacific Isles, parts of Europe, Mexico, South America, etc. Good to know that licensing can be arranged in advance, at least in certain places, but perhaps only in the places where you are least likely to worry about pirates i.e. Canada & US.
