Bragging about Ruth if I can ....

Post by Sumner »

I've already posted this on the other couple Mac Boards, so forgive the post if you have already seen it, but I'm pretty proud of what Ruth has done and wanted to share it :) .

Here is what Ruth has done lately....

Image

Anchor Sail...

Image

Bags & More Bags...

Image

Filter Cover...

There is more planned like a sail pack, cabin/cockpit bug screen and new cushions and covers for the cabin and cockpit (we have the material, but still have to order the cushions).

I moved all of what she has done to one 'Index page'.

Ruth's Canvas Modifications...

If you haven't seen some of the other work she has done such as modifying the pop-top cover, covers for the companionway, tiller, and generator check out the link above.

Hope some of this is useful to some of you and as you can tell I'm real proud of all that she has done,

Sum

Very nice work, Ruth. The anchor sail gets me to wondering about trying a similar project, using a corner of an old, replaced mainsail. I assume that your backstay is centered on the stern of your boat. On our 26X the backstay is off to one side, to allow for the hinged steering seat. I wonder how well an anchor sail would work, hanked on to the off center back stay. Anyone tried this with their X?

Thanks, I told Ruth.

I'll save you the research on the anchor sail. Let's say you are anchored, but find that the anchor is in the wrong place. Attach the sail to it and you can sail it over to the proper location  . Maybe you should do your own research afterall 8) ,

I'll bet it would work fine. I originally thought that it worked centered on the backstay and to the mast. Wrong :( .

You attach it to the backstay and then off to one side of the boat. This way it acts somewhat in the same way as heaving to.

So that's what they mean when they say "anchors away".(aweigh) :P  I'd better buy a dinghy so I can catch it before it sails off into the sunset. Rob 8) PS: I should amend the above to "looks good Ruth" :)

An anchor sail helps keep the boat from wandering at anchor. It should be rigged as far aft as possible. Think of your boat becoming a wind vane, with the bow always pointing into the wind.

I bought one from Banner Bay Marine years ago. They now make a very unusual one.

Nice work Ruth. That looks fantastic!

I wonder what she would charge us to recover our cockpit cushions.

Ruth told me to thank everyone for the kind words!!

Russ that might be a good deal, she can practice on yours and when she gets good do ours  .

Actually she is going to be way to busy in the next few months, but some time in the future might consider doing something for someone. She has a good pension coming in from Boeing, so isn't motivated from the money side too much, but does like to stay busy.

I'll post her future projects as she does them,

Sum

Ruth has been to the UK on work and didn't mention anything about sun to me  . Living where we do I thought the sun was out every day :) .

Yes you did "make a wicked lazy jack" system and hopefully you will see my other post with questions about your sail pack/lazy jack system on the other thread and post more. I had hernia surgery last week, but feel good enough that tomorrow I think we will put the mast up on the Image along with the boom and new main and take some measurements so Ruth can start on the sail pack/lazy jack. Anything you might have that would help us would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sum and Ruth (has sewing machine, will travel)
