Dink outboard on stern seats

I just got a Suzuki 2.5 and want to mount it on the BWY stern pulpit seats on an M. Anyone done this and have pics. I'm challenged at using the search function.

You might be able to fit an outboard stanchion bracket to hold your Suzi



or



both units bolt around the stanchion rail the outboard sits on top.



I installed a transom mount to hold our Merc 3.3 on Imagine our the stern of the X is different to the M.

I fabricated one out of "star-board" and suspended it from the stern perch rail using rubber insulated wire clamps. Not High-Zoot but is very functional.

I'd consider two things first.
There is not much horizontal SS rail that is straight on the BWY seats. Most of it is curved SS to make the backrest.
Most mounts need straight lenghts of rail to work, I think.
Next is the comfort factor.
Using the backrest with any type of motor mount rubbing on your back while trying to enjoy the view might be uncomfortable.

I halfway looked for a solution, but gave up after not finding any good ideas.

We just strap the motor to the seat itself for transit time, then remove it to the dinghy at the destination.

We have the Honda 2hp, aircooled ,4 stroke, 28lbs.

With boat still on the trailer, we place the motor on a pad on the stbd stern seat from the outside, then use a small ratchet nylon strap to tie it to the seat and it's SS tubing. Powerhead forward. Several wraps around everything.
Ugly but effective.
(The only thing to watch for is motor placement so that no interference with raising/lowering the captains seat).

When we get to destination, we float the dinghy, tie it in tight at the stern seat, undo the nylon ratchet strap, and lift the motor from seat to dinghy in one motion.
28lbs is nice for that.
That's the reason it gets placed from the outside, so as to make the transfer from the stern seat to the dinghy and then back to the seat simple with no issues with being on the inside of the SS seat tubing.

Works for us perfectly.

One day, a real mount would be nice if it can work with curved SS tubing and not make sitting in the seat uncomfortable without an engine mounted.

I would still recommend you keep a line attached to the motor on transfer. Its amazing how easy it is to drop these things on the xfer.

My Nissan 4HP is at the practical limit for hand xfer at 60# btw.

a 265 lb man cannot hold a 4 hp evinrude out of the water if he is floating in it.

don't ask me how I know.

As Cat pointed out, always use a tether. much easier than diving.

Good advise. Especially in deep water.

The Suz 2.5 is supposed to weigh 30# so I'm hoping it will be easy to handle. 4 stroke will mean it can share the same gas.

Yea, it's always wise to have some "help". I've installed motors on all kinds of dinks and never by hoping into the dink with motor in hand.
As you said, tethering it is the way to go. Especially when it will be my 11 year old boy helping.

You probably know the # as a hash key, but in the US you use the hash key to speed dial something else.

In the Colonies the # key is called the 'pound' so it gets used to represent pounds weight as well.

We use kg's, I've never seen # used as a shortcut even before Australia went metric, I did assume it was lbs, as Abbott and Costello said, never assume .....
