That be a Melges pulling that skier....although I wonder if they really pull the skier out of the water or whether its some trick and its just pulling a skier that is already planing.
Pretty darn fast boats....1200 sq foot spinaker on an A-Scow.
As I recalll when I read the description of this event some months ago, they did a slack towrope start from a dock, so the boat could accelerate to towing speed and reach plane before the rope snapped tight. Hot dog skiers start from the dock like this all the time. They didn't pull him from a dead stop out of the water, but it's still pretty damn impressive.
I saw a similar picture perhaps thirty years ago of a water skier being pulled by a Hobie 16.
Thank you everybody who have taken interest concerning my lost centreboard and who have contributed in different ways with their advice comments pictures etc. I have now most of the informations I needed.
I have manage to visit the centreboard shaft, I noted that the centreboard hanger strap bolt was cut off, probably damaged by corrosion, when the cable broke the centreboard had nothing to hang on.
It would be a good advice to have this item check at regular intervals

Actually, I dropped him an e-mail, Herm... haven't heard back yet...
There's a pretty good chance he is OK though, since most of Mauritius was largely un-touched (thankfully). I do know that one of the villages in northern Mauritius was submerged by the surge but I don't believe there was any loss of life there.
I was relieved to hear today from Philippe! He and his family - and his Mac - are all fine. He had been travelling in South Africa at the time, so was not actually in Mauritius at the time of the tsunami. He reports that damage to Mauritius was indeed quite small, and only affected a few people living on the coast and some fishermen.
He also reports that he's nearly finished making the new centreboard for his Mac, and that he's still working out the details of the fibregassing and lifting mechanisim (as it is heavier than the original one).
Philippe plans to rejoin the forum soon, when he's finished with the considerable work he's undertaken recently.
His final line to me was:
"...the family is fine and we are awaiting when the Mac will be back at sea again."
Very good news, indeed!

It is indeed a Melges 24. And the person at the helm is none other than Buddy Melges himself. It's not a trick. They really did this. They used a dock start with a slack tow rope.
Holy Keel Boat Batman.....THis is the first time I have ever seen this thread and hope it will be the last. I have learned tons of great information on this site from the likes of: Moe, Mark Prouty, kmclemore, Chip Hindes, Dimitri-2000X-Tampa, Bill@boats4sail, duane dunn, Frank C, TampMAc, and others that I apoligize If I missed some names that I look up to as knowing much more than I do about Sailing and "things" in general, but I have NEVER LEARNED ANYTHING from mighetto. I don't know him so won't judge him.
I do agree with moe that the best way to deal with someone like that is to give some information to dispute the wacko info or some will get confused and think that the moon is made of swiss che....
So what is the procudure for voting someone off our island? If I knew how to make a poll, I would make one that reads: Does member Mighetto need to 1) stay a Mac Sailors member 2) be removed by the administrator? Heath operates and over looks this site and does a GREAT job, so I don't have room to give him advice. But in any community their are cancers that need to go....so maybe someone that knows how can make the poll?

Heath oversees the board as opposed to overlooking the board and makes it a practice to avoid kicking people off the board.
Besides, a lot of us get a good laugh from Mighetto. He only becomes an irritant when you try to set him straight. Just read his posts and have a good laugh or don't read them. No one here takes him seriously.
