Centerboard trunk
Has anyone actually broken the centerboard trunk on one of the early ventures? Mine seems to flex quite a bit even after installing an extra brace. Or maybe its the hull or the rest of the boat flexing.

It's possible that your centerboard trunk is the center of the universe, and everything else is moving in relation to it!

Re: Centerboard trunk
How is the bottom of the hull around the trunk? Any problems with blisters, cracks, or past repairs? Hopefully you're not getting leakage into the hull/trunk core.

Re: Centerboard trunk
I assume you are talking about an X since it has a centerboard and an M has a dagger board. I don't know how it is possisle for you to be able to see the trunk move while sailing. The C/B hanges on a hanger and only makes contact with an small, strong part of the hull. If the C/B is moving it would also be making alot of bumping noise.

No she's an older venture 22. It does not flex a lot but does visiblly move. I was just wondering if the trunks on these boats had known issues.

I have never heard of a venture 22 or 222 having issues with the trunk housing. They were built like tanks. A picture would be helpful, as would your responses to questions in the above posts.

Re: Centerboard trunk
Hi again. No the trunk does not leak and although it has a hole in it from where it got hit by lightning it is above the waterline. It is possible that heh heh it is the " center of the universe" and the rest of the boat is moving around it. the whole boat seems pretty flexible. The unusual rig I have on it is probably straining the deck and causing the boat to flex also. But ever since I got the boat ten years ago I had always wondered if anyone had damaged one just by sailing it hard. I've also whacked the bottom pretty hard shooting the shoals under sail but so far have not damaged the centerboard pin.
If I do not upgrade to a larger boat I plan an extensive fiberglass party strengthen and stiffen the boat to better carry the rig loads. Last week after sailing in windy weather the cabin doors where binding in thier frames.
