JMGT 2011

Post by jcasale »

Greetings,

Its that time of year where everybody needs to look at your calendar and mark the date for the 2011 Jacksonville Macgregor Get Together. This will be our third year and it each time we meet it only gets better. The trip will be during the Labor Day weekend. Tell your boss, get permission from the admiral and get your mods completed early because JMGT 2011 is going to set the standard for trailer sailing in NE Florida. We've got great sailing, incredible destinations and plenty of free ramps, slips, and parking. More details to come but here is the trip report from last year. PM me if you have any questions.

K9,

That vehicle and brand new shiny M belong to Edward and when I met up with him that was the only vehicle I saw. Maybe there is a Chevy HHR website similar to this one and he has some secret mods done 8)

Glad you liked the pics although they really don't do the trip or the area justice. Hope to see you in August

Just to give the explaination of the HHR, it has a modified frame and suspension and frame mounted class III receiver. The towing mods were done for other purposes long before the :macm: showed up. It's being retired from boat towing duty this year.

It has the power and torque (the engine doesn't even work hard and gets 20mpg while towing), but I wouldn't recommend towing with a stock HHR as the original suspension isn't designed for it.

We will be working on a move this summer, so it'll be hit or miss as to whether we'll make it down this year.

I knew it! Edward had a secret weapon.

I hope you can make it this year, if not you and your family will be missed. Good luck with the move and I hope it is somewhere close to great sailing.

JMGT 2011

Post by jcasale »

75 days until JMGT 2011

The Jacksonville Macgregor Owners Group (Jax Macs) will be hosting its third annual Labor Day event, the JMGT 2011.

The meet and greet BBQ and beach party will be held at Little Talbot Island on Friday September 2nd. The itinerary is coming together and should be formalized soon, so keep your eyes on the msg board and clear your calendars early.

Choices of destinations include (but are not limted to) historical Fernandina, Fl., St. Augustine, Fl or an exploration of the mighty St. Johns River. There will be great ocean sailing and the opportunity for some spectacular intra-coastal exploration.

The marinas are free! The parking is free! The scenery is free! The beer is...yeah right :P

Okay fine, I'll provide the first ice cold PBR! 8)

As always this event is open to all sailboats so spread the word to your Catalina and Hunter buddies, if you can beach it you can bring it!

Pm me for details. For pics and a trip report from last years event check out the link below.

Greetings,

So far the exact itinerary is TBD but it looks like the group will be headed to St. Augustine, Fl. More information to follow. My job is killing me lately so I haven't had a chance to update the groups website. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to spend a few hours on it. Anyone can PM me with specific questions. Jim, you've done a great job with the teaser pics and you probably have more photos from the 2009 trip online so please keep uploading them. I hope the arm is doing better.

Stay tuned,

John

John,

You ask...I deliver...

Video shot by John on the ICW in St. Augustine waiting for the Bridge of Lions to raise

Doug, you said you wanted to beach...this was about 6:00 in the morning at Little Talbot State Park. At 4:00 in the morning John's boat (the :macx: ) was completely dry

Jacksonville Landing on the St. John's River. Great place to stop...FREE...with lots of restaurants and bands during Labor Day

Spent the third night secured to the floating pier at Jacksonville Landing...for FREE.

Looks like John (and I presume the rest of the Jacksonville area crowd...Mark/Helen, Phil) are thinking Friday night at Little Talbot State Park on the beach...cookout. Saturday we can sail south on the Atlantic or if the weather is not quite right we can motor (and sail some possibly) down the ICW to a marina in St. Augustine and grab dinner in a restaurant. Then Sunday we can motor or sail back North (ICW or Atlantic) to the St. John's River and for those that want to continue can go to Jacksonville Landing for dinner and listen to the band. Monday is the travel day to go back home. Or stay and sail some more...

So who else is in?

Cheers,
Jim

John,

How many Macs you thinking are coming. Count Doug W from Missouri and myself from Virginia. Better than 50/50, I think, that TFlight will be able to trailer down from the Baltimore area...he is still trying to deconflict his work schedule.

Cheers,
Jim
