I think your right.I will look at my anode and consult with my mechanic before I adjust it. I presume I should adjust it clockwise a few mm! I hope to splash her this weekend with the unused jib halyard securely attached to the second hole on the bow roller beside the furler hole hook up in case the forestay decides to let go...but I doubt it will.

Funny, I put the nuts underneath ( seems like the natural place to put nuts :D ) without even thinking about it, but I will enter your pre lauch check point in my routine (is an easy one), and will coincidentally make me inspect my lower power unit and prop a bit more before splashing her.

Here's what the factory says about lifting hydrofoil attachmnents to the outboard motor. I'm not sure that these comments apply exactly to this type of attachment.

"Do not install a lifting hydrofoil on the cavitation plate of the outboard motor. These are airfoil shaped wings, offered in various sizes and shapes. Their purpose is to provide lift at the stern of the boat. This raises the stern and forces the bow down, allowing the boat to get up on a plane more quickly. If they do keep the boat level when coming up on a plane, the ballast tank may not drain completely when the boat is underway. You may think you have an empty tank, but you may not.



These hydrofoils create another problem when the boat turns or leans sideways while underway. The lift that they provide goes straight up the centerline of the outboard motor, adding a strong force to promote further leaning or capsize.



These devices can exert a large amount of force; enough to snap off the cavitation plate that is cast as part of the drive shaft housing. Avoid them. "

IMHO The power thruster is not a lifting type hydroplane it gets it's benefit by focussing the thrust forward (not lifting up), this can be observed by the stream out the back which seems to stay below the surface longer and holds the exhaust noise down as well.
Definitely recommend checking nuts as well as making sure the ladder is up when motoring both will cause a disaster for props and cavitation plates "trust me" I do know but overall believe it is well worth it even if they don't achieve the results stated but then thats hard to test on the water.

I only have second party information about this thruster. My mechanic says it will act like a turbine and will improve thrust, gas mileage and control. My friend Claude (an engineer) who was sent to Vietnam to apply his fix on all the USA helicopters in service at the time to reduce to zero some kind of blade problem afflicting them told me the same. No one told me it would break my motor. If it does I'll be pretty p ed off . You would think the guy who sells these things would have figured this out and stopped making them. Do you think he knows this and keeps selling them anyhow ?

I know of two incidents locally where the anti-cavitation plate was broken off the lower unit by these devices (and not by striking anything). I saw one of them myself.

It was years ago, but based on the somewhat limited size of my circle of boating aquaintances, I would expect that the overall frequency of this failure is high enough that I would be somewhat concerned.

I have seen no evidence that would suggest that the manufacturer has designed the anti-cavitation plate to withstand the extra stress these add-on devices would impose. Unless the manufacturers themselves were selling such a device, why would they?

But, on the other hand, you might luck out and get years of trouble-free service!

there seems to be two totally different devices being discussed here,which seems to be confusing some,maybe time to start new thread for power thruster which has nothing whatsoever to do with a wing shaped hydrofoil lifting wing.

Hy guys , i have a Mac 26x mooring on Windermere UK on the river Leven which is the lake run off , and getting on to the mooring which is small without hitting other boats is a nightmare , a 40hp outboard , the current and wind are freakin awful , the mooring is very shallow , any tip girls n boyz , without stating the obvious :?
