No reef points?

Post by cub21rak »

I was looking at my main in the backyard today and seen there are no reef points on it. If I'm wanting to use less sail should I leave some of the main rolled around the boom?

Did you reef that way often? Did it cause any damage to the main? Would it cause damage if done often?

The Helsen was 35 years old with the original mail sail so I was not to concerned about it but it was a pain to reef and would not be good for the sail. I think bwy could put so reef points in it for you or any loft. I was going to do that and don't think it was to expensive.

I usually wrap the Main around the boom a few times on my MacGregor 25. I lose the vang but the reduction in main compensates for the lack of flattening the sail.
