Choice Made: X Or M

Post by GaryMayo »

I have made many inquiries in your forum over the past few weeks. About sailboats in general, but also about the advantages and disadvantages of an :macx: VS an :macm:

This question must have been raised in this forum, hundreds of times, but my question had a twist, because I am 6'7" tall, and the size of a TV Wrestler.

Today we were able to climb around on two :macx: 's and an :macm: One :macx: as an older one, and one newer.

Drum roll please:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The Winner is?

:macx: :macx: :macx: :macx: :macx: :macx: :macx: :macx: :macx: :macx: :macx: :macx: :macx:

Not even a close contest, really. My fitness level I could barely get on the :macm: and it was harder still getting into the cabin. I feel, it would be possible to use the head in the :macx: but not as easy to use the :macm: because it is narrower from side to side.? Just seemed smaller to me. The B birth in the :macx: is larger with the back out of the dining table. Makes a much larger area. The S birth is less overhead space, but my wife was able to crawl around in that space OK.

The cockpit in the :macx: is quite a bit larger, and if the seat were modified to go up and back, over the engine, like the :macm: does, the cockpit of the :macx: would really be a lot larger.

We found one with a kicker engine, 8 HP with full controls, that we could move to a kicker location on the Port side, when we find a 70 HP (or so) engine we really want. That will give us two engines, for the day we get adventurous and look for bigger challenges than our little lake.

Tomorrow I test drive an :macx: at 1PM Pretty excited!

Congratulations all the Macs are great boats and sure you will get an enomous amount of pleasure from it and that will expand the more and more varied ways you use the it.
The :macx: was my pick initially but there was absolutely no way I could sell it to the wife she thought the cabin was claustrophobic? and the rear berth a definite no no, we had a sail on an :macx: (or I did) she refused to board, I loved it and the features.
Looked at the :macm: on land and sussed a few out then did our first trip mast down 800k's down the Murray river, she loved it.
I really cannot see why people have any problem accessing the :macm: I am totally confused.
Pity you can't get a Mac 28 over there Gary as they were a copy of the X by an Australian dealer (with approval) and they were just so much bigger and better in every way including price unfortunately but for a 6+ ft'r you would love it and most had at least 90hp. http://boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/ ... 4294888872

When I had my M in a slip, I had a LOT of difficulty entering the boat from the side, until my daughter made my son-in-law build me stairs and handrails up to the boat. I had just had a stroke and had real problems with this until I got the stairs.

Even with the stairs, one time I fell onto the dock getting off the boat and broke my hand and one time getting on the boat I fell into the water between the dock and the boat (while still hanging onto the starboard lifeline) and sliced my hand open pretty good (all of the fat in my hand flowed out - - I still have a skinny right hand with a big scar).

When the boat was on the trailer (not often) I had no problem accessing the boat from the transom using the swim ladder. I was never abole to use the bow ladder on the trailer - - - too hard for me

Sorry to hear that.

If I thought I could fall, get cut and my fat would roll out, I would be jumping off stuff right and left!

I am pretty sure I will also build steps at my slip, should I be lucky enough to get a slip next year. I hope, I hope!

I do not need steps, as much as I seem to need hand rails so I have stuff to hold on to. I may put handicap bars like you see in ADA restrooms all over my boat! lol

Gary, 83000 Australian is today US$ 86075 They are a little pricey  But remember the cost of labour is a lot more expensive over here so they would be a heap cheaper if Roger or something decided to make them there..

For a fully optioned 26M we pay about 70ish grand I think. I payed AU$ 46K for mine which was about 2 years old, and that was a good deal at the time (well, not really if you factor in the trailer problems I didnt notice...)
