That is a pretty area, we enjoyed being there last spring and hopefully again this spring. Are you anchoring out or what? On the Atlantic side of Gulf? It is nice that it is pretty easy to go from one to the other there.

We got a visit from these guys there....

.... a good anchorage, but you have to make sure you won't have a west wind out of the Gulf. We really liked it north of there also up to Key Largo. If you are interested in anchorages in that direction or down to Marathon PM me and I'll send you a link for that part of our trip. I have the maps and pictures up, but no dialog yet so don't have the link publicly posted yet.

Have a great time,

There is a group including 4 Xs planing on New Years in south Biscayne Bay. Then a couple Xs in the 10,000 Islands after New Years.

Then I will be around Key West and Tampa Bay until about March.

Ken, are you going to make the Trip? There are 7 boats so far from WCTSS. We are launching at South Dade Marina Dec.28th thru Jan. 2nd. For others, South Dade charges $5 a day for launch and boat /truck storage. It is a all Sailboat Marina.
Not much for accomadations but we anchor out and only use it as a launch place.
We monotor channel 71 as does the rest of the club.

We broke the taillight lens there and I think one of the lights on the center light bar there. I was busy and had other problems so couldn't really tell if the trailer went off the end of the ramp or hit something under the water, but it was on both sides. Our trailer is longer now with the extension on it and third bunk, so the lights are a lot further back than before.

Anyway this was our first time retrieving with the boat in salt water and I didn't pay any attention to the tide at the time like I do when we are anchoring :( . Could that of been the problem? Have you ever had a problem there?

We put the boat in twice and once out at All American over by Port Charlotte, but that is on that inland waterway with the lock, so no tidal heights to deal with there. Other than the trailer light problem I liked South Dade and the guy who owns it and would go back there again. We did leave the Suburban/trailer there for the last part of our trip with no problems and they are the cheapest place around. After I turned the trailer around in there and backed it into a narrow space in one move he asked me if I would come back and give lessons on backing a trailer 8) .

All of you guys have fun,

Sum

Sum,
It was first time I launched at South Dade Dec.27, 2010 with a Potter and 2 Mac.X. We had no problem Launching or retreaving but you do have to make 2- 3 tries in manovering down to the ramp. I don't think Ken on Last Flight had a problem either. I think we launched at mid tide and there was a small bump at end of ramp.
Are you joining in? would love to have you and Ruth there, along with Ken on Last Flight as he is a wonderful Guitar picker and intertainer.
This is last years trip, this year we are heading to Elliot Key and Boca Key.

I was driving and it felt to me that the trailer dropped off the end. That might of been the bump part? I probably backed it down in further than necessary. I do know that it is a lot steeper ramp than the ones we have used in the west. The same with the one at All American. I had trouble with the bow rollers catching on the long bunk on the trailer on both of those ramps and have since...

...modified it and and the...

.... "V" support up front....

..... I don't think I'll have the problem again.

We might never bring the Mac back down there now having the Endeavor there. We will miss that though as for a lot of areas down there you can't beat the Mac. We hope to get down the end of Jan. or early Feb. and hope to be in the water by the end of Feb. We are a little behind right now in things we needed to make. Ruth gets the protective boot off from the second foot operation next week and I'll turn the sewing machine back over to her.

We might make one of your trips at some point. If you get a chance you could do me a favor. When we were at South Dade Marine I forgot to take any pictures of the place or the ramp. If you could take a few when you are there and e-mail them to me I'd like to have them for last springs trip report,

If any of your make it to Key West please don't be a stranger. Hope to see any and all down this far.

I used to keep my boat at Garrison Bight. I just moved her this weekend up to Mile Marker 10. Better overnights around there. Plus the price was right.... free.
