Economic indicator - almost no slips in Michigan City

Post by dlandersson »

I found it interesting - compared to last year - that there are almost no slips (and NO 25-30 foot slips) available in the Washington Marina at Michigan City, IN.

Did any nearby marina's go out of business? That happened here a couple of years back. Suddenly, the marina where we slip Nice Aft, became very popular.

That, or the news reported that the NATO & G8 conferences in Chicago were impacting the marina's there - people are shifting north and south, causing demand to pick up. 8)

FWIW if you are looking for a slip and don't mind a little driove there are slips available in Michigan. I see adds for slips in South Haven all the time. They are starting around $1500. a season for a 25-30 foot slip. Many with aminities like a clup house and pool. Besides you are right in town and close to many resturants and pubs. We need more :macm: and :macx: 's here. :D

We have been on the wait list since 2007 at Washington Marina. Since then we have been at South Haven MI. Even if we get the call from Michigan City, we will probably stay over in MI. Agree with previous poster; Much nicer area with way more to do over there.
