Motor well trim collar

Post by tomchitecture »

I have a 1991 26s in very nice shape. One sore spot is the trim piece that, I believe, covers the hull binding. Some previous owner clamped the motor over it and cracked it then spread a healthy helping of BOATLIFE over it. I would like to replace this trim piece. It is a horshshoe shaped piece about 12" tall and 20" wide.

Looking for the part. Wondering if anyone has ever done this and is willing to pass on any advice.

I'm looking as well. A PO thought it a good idea to put a piece of 1 1/2" angle aluminum there. Actually 3 pieces. Then some type of brown glue that's not UV tolerant. Should make for easy removal though. I am yet to get in to the lazz and look up and see if i can get a piece of wood in there and firm it up.
If anyone finds something please PM me. Thanks.

I had the same issue with my Mac 26s. Worse, because the PO had drilled there and considerable water had gone to wet the board that is sandwiched within the fiberglass to provide rigidity to the transom. In my model, this collar is stuck, not rivetted like in earlier models (26D). http://www.macgregorsailors.com/modt/in ... ewimg=2788 I cut off a good 4 in section of it and rebuilt it using fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin. I then coated it with gelcoat and polished it. Remained excellent, one cannot notice it had been repaired, but requiered some work. My engine is now through-bolted in a way that the engine bracket sits about 1/8 in above the collar without exerting pressure and vibration directly on it.
