Sliding Galley for Mac25

Post by SENCMac26x »

As I mentioned in my earlier post the sliding galley has been removed from the 1986 Mac 25 I purchased, does anyone know where I can purchase another or can someone post pictures of their units. I'm mot interested in the setup that fits into the groove along the settee and how or if it locks into place.

(I did a search but didn't find anything)

I have a 1985 with that galley. I'm considering replacing it with a custom non-sliding one, so it might be up for grabs. That being said, the reasons are that it is connected to a through hall drain which I dont think was factory and the water bag under the sittee so it is not convienient to slide in and out... so it is just blocking usable storage space in my opinion.

If you got pictures I would love to see. Where are you going to build the non movable galley. I was think across from the head, or somehow behind the table to the cockpit. I'd like to preserve the settee and a sleeping space since I ll have 3 kids.

I have not put anything to paper yet. but here are my thoughts:
- I want access to the storage space under the cockpit
- the drain hole isnt moving so the sink goes there
- need counter space next to sink
- soo.. counter needs to be (re)movable.... thought about putting cooler here
- if I wanted to preserve the sittee the sink would have to be small, but thats ok. I've seen folks use stainless bowls, I spotted a bar sink at Home-D that might fit the bill
- the sink acts a catch-all because "stuff might roll/fall off the counter" so there needs to be other "safe" places to put things besides the sink built against the wall behind and above the sink.
- i want move my VHF and FM radio over there ( and hopefully reachable from the cockpit )

- For your situ, Ive seen the space under the cockpit used as a bunk also..

I am getting ready to fabricate a sliding galley for my 1976 22' Venture. The stainless steel sink I will be using came from a Brinkman grill. There are also two stainless steel hinged covers from the same grill that I plan to use. One cover for the sink and one for the stove portion that will make a handy food prep counter when hinged down. I have not decided if I will use and alcohol or propane burner.

My plan is to make the length and width as small as possible while still allowing use of the hinged SS covers. It would be great if someone could post a picture of a stock sliding galley. Also, it would be great to know the dimensions of the foot print in the boat where the sliding galley goes as I am two hours away from my boat.

My plan is also to post pictures when finished.

I'd like to see some photos of what others have done as well. I'm considering cutting the galley out of my V25.

I put a custom galley in my Mac 25 several years ago. Apparently I can't post a picture from my hard drive in the forum, so I added a post with photos in the mod section of the site for anyone who's interested. Personally, I never liked the slide out galley concept myself. I don't find the long bench comfortable to sit on (I'd much rather be at the dinette) and it wastes a very useful quarterberth bunk. Even if you don't sleep someone there, you can cram an incredible amount of stuff into that space it it's not filled with a semi-functional galley. Just my opinion.

Just to add pointless opinion, the admiral and I love the sliding galley. With a full boat of two adults and three kids, it makes more useful space during the different times of day.

Granted, for just two people, it's kind of a wast of time.

I have finished building the sliding galley for my V22 and am looking forward to trying it out in March. My budget was $30 as all the wood was laying around I salvaged the stainless steel sink from a disgarded Brinkman 2600 grill. The main expense was a propane camp stove. I will try to upload a picture to the mod section.

I looked at the mods, that looks amazing. Tell me, how does the actual Slding work? Does it just literally slide on the bench or are there rollers? Is there a locking mechnism to hold it in place?

Good question on how to make the galley slide as I am interested in this information as well. My plan at this point is to just bolt it to the boat. However, if I learn a good sliding idea, I may take that route. I wonder if the the factory installed galley would slide like the sliding hatch?
