Plant Shuttered, Doors Closed.

Post by BOAT »

I heard they lifted the last hull out of it's mold on the 12th. Talking with a guy at the plant who's last day was friday I found that they had already thown out a lot of dumpsters, and started preparing the facility to rent to new tenets. Aparantly on friday at 2:30 the gate was closed and locked. That was it.

Just thought you folks would like to know.

The person who buys the last Mac hull will have a piece of history.

I assume the molds are on their way to Florida for a new life as a Tattoo.

That assumes the last hull was sold.

I feel sorry for the people who will no longer have a job. Are some of the workers going to relocate?

The man I talked to was in charge of the trailers. He is going to Florida. He was really great - he helped me a LOT when I was in the process of buying 'boat' because I needed an electric dolly built to move it into my side yard. I really hate to see those people go.

I will take some pics and post soon. Lot's of other things I'm working on too - I'm really getting busy. Lot's of Mods.

The dolly is pretty cool. Clay at the MAC factory is the guy that builds th trailers and he talked to a guy In San Clemente that builds the dollies and with the info from Clay I got a custome electric dolly to use to put 'boat' in the driveway. It's so tight of a fit I only have about 2 inches clearence on each side between a cinderblock wall and my garage.

Okay - the dolly works great - I would never be able to get the boat in and out of the side yard without it.

It's made by POWERMOVERS in San Clemente, and they have a web site that is just as cheezy as the MAC website, but a good product.

That dolly looks pretty cool. Price isn't as bad as I thought.

It's worth every penny because the guy builds them like tanks. They are really strong - a lot of hard steel in that thing. And they are VERY powerful - NOTHING will stop the motor (I mean NOTHING) if it has traction it will just keep going. I tried to make a brake for it and I accidentally put the brake on without shutting down the motor and the thing chewed my metal brake up into a twisted pretzel - NOTHING stops it.

The number one thing is TRACTION. To get the trailer over my curb I need to pull the boat in a hard left turn and then a hard right turn or the tires will just skid. It can go up hill but not go over bumps bigger than 2 inches uphill because there is not enough tongue wight on out boats to hold the tires down hard enough against the pavement to keep traction.

I made little ramps to go up the curb, but next time I go out I'm going to stand on the tongue and see if that gives it enough traction weight to go up the curb without ramps.
