Water leaking from daggerboard trunk

Post by canmac27 »

A couple days ago I noticed that the carpet opposite the head was wet and further inspection found some water in the storage area below in the port-side lockers. About 2-3 cups. The water was fresh as the water in the ballast has chlorine in it to prevent algae.
Today, we had rain and I took the opportunity to see where the water was coming from and it looks like it is from the top of daggerboard housing. There are a series of bolts that connect the top of the DB housing to the underside of the deck top (liner?).
My Question: Can I simply remove the bolts which seem to secure the flared housing and then apply some 4200 sealant and then retighten the bolts? Will this stop the water infiltrating into the cabin? I'm not even sure if loosening the bolts will give me enough gap between the housing and the cabin top to apply a sealant? As anyone come across this situation before? Disappointing as the boat is only a 2012!
