Port side pedestal screws

Okay, the port side (starboard is fine, don't ask me why) pedestal screws that hold on the black plastic (look like wood screws) have stripped out the holes they were in and are not holden' nothin'. I need to put something to give the screws something to "bite" in to. Suggestions?

I hate to say it but PL Premium. I know its a construction adhesive but a few guys around here use it on boats. One guy claimed to have fixed leaks on his riveted aluminum boat. I tried it on the wooden battery tray the PO had installed(it had come loose). Now I've moved my batteries and that stupid tray is stuck to the bilge and I'm worried about hurting the boat if I try any harder to remove it.

The problem with it is it's $6 a tube for the style that goes in a caulking gun. Too much glue for a small job and it often hardens in the end and can't be re-used.

I used it to mount the wood for my new battery trays in the V-berth and under the Ice Box in the rear settee, can't budge them so it definitely bonds well to fiberglass.

Fill....Wait for cure....drill pilot holes...re-insert screws.

Should cure hard enough to sand etc.

My cousin says get the PL 400, its one step down but it's easier to use and still super strong.

Home Depot, near the caulking by the way.

Christmas tree type fasteners (screw the screws, pop and go keep a dozen in the boat for on the go repairs)

Hollow wall anchors (the plastic type or the expanding metal ones... Blah)

Chopped fiberglass (kitty hair. A bit more work, but will likely be the closest to factory... But I was into one of these pedestals today and recognize why some people bash the Mac's build quality... Screws straight into fiber?)

Glue a strip of wood behind it and screw into that.

Glue nuts on the back... But if they break free, you're done.

All above can be purchased at ace/true value stores. They usually have titanium and stainless selections in costal areas.

Or ... Chop off the pedastal, reshape the top part with fiberglass for post mount.

There is a nutsert type nut out there that is designed to embed itself in wood . Mine did the same thing and Put these on the other side and they embedded in the fiberglass .

I just use a little bit of that Marine Putty that comes in a little tube i keep onboard - it's just a 2 part epoxy - the putty form is great for little things - you cut off a little bit of one part and mix it with a little piece of the other part and stick it where ever you want - it drys hard in about 2 hours.

Cheeze and Crackers might work too!

(Never tried that - )

Strange... I have exactly the same problem. Starboard OK, port stripped.

Probably because the engine control is mounted to the starboard side, and therefore it's not removed often.

Maybe.

I fixed that, starboard side, by using machine screws and nutting the inside. The port side needs work, though.

The Starboard side of the pedestal on my X is through bolted and never loosens.

As Paul points out, the starboard side, with the throttle mounted on it, is through-bolted. The port side merely uses screws.
