Side Support Wires

Post by js_bandit »

Hey everyone!
Just a quick question regarding the side support wires on a 26S. I have seen a lot of people at the harbor and online that keep their side support wires one while under sail. Is there any advantage to this or are they just too lazy to take them down? I don't see what other purpose they serve aside from helping during mast raising. Thanks!

I guess you mean the baby stays? yes I know I leave them attached when I am sailing but if on maybe a extended trip its not a bad idea to store them to free up deck space.

I leave mine on as an extra handhold. My last boat had struts from the boom base to the deck (B&R rig), which were even more handy, though they had nothing to do with mast raising. :D

I leave mine on so I don't slice my feet open on the deck-mounted brackets.
