In addition to the full cockpit netting, we've also made a bug net cover for the forward hatch, which we often use. Also, we have made a bug netting which drapes across the companionway hatch. We put lead sinker weights into a sleeve along both edges, and it lays in the track for the sliding hatch. It's quicker to put up than the full cockpit net, and when we are merely dealing with mosquitoes who show up at sunset, we'll put it up to keep critters out of the cabin at night.

I love the idea of using the fishing lead weight to hold the netting in place on the companion way and even the front hatch!

Yea, I have the commercially available hatch screens which have lead weights all around the perimeter, probably pretty similar to fishing weights I would guess.

I have the Full Enclosure for the X... I have a bunch of pictures of it on my website. I also have the screen option that they offer with it.

Here are some pics: (the windows are still covered from when I first got it.)

It works great, especially in bad weather!

Erik, is that the BWY enclosure or some other type? Chinook mentioned that the BWY enclosure didn't have bug screen option.

Um, whom exactly are you saying this to, I wonder? :D :)

My headsail sun cover is the same red, too. My FIL and I will be making a matching main sail cover, too, as the OEM black one is pretty shot, and looks out of place. I've also made some mods to the bridge section so that the mast roller crutch can stick out through it, so I can motor with the mast down but the canvas up. We also added a 'window' to the bimini so I can see the sail and windex through it while at the helm. 8)

Sorry.

Questions for those who have the full enclosure from BWY for the X.

What are the steps needed to take for trailering? Do you have to take off the dodger and store below or will it lay forward with a cover? Does the bimini lay back for trailering like the one that comes stock?

What is the setup time to get the enclosure setup? Is it to much effort for short excursions?

With the wide Dodger. How is there rope handling? Is their room under the dodger to run ropes or is that not needed? My halyard lines run back to the cockpit. I'm afraid the placement of the cam cleat will conflict with the dodger placement.

Does the dodger obscure your view to much or is the protection from the elements worth the trade-off?

We have the full enclosure for the M, and my only real beef with it is that on cooler days with heat in the cabin the dodger fogs quite regularly as does the full enclosure. Been thinking about adding a fan or something to keep it clear. Not worth setting up on short trips IMO

The enclosure for our 2000- :macx: is the original wide Dodger from BWY, everything else custom but similar to BWY.

Do you have to take off the dodger and store below or will it lay forward with a cover?
- We usually take the dodger off and store below and leave the frame on and folded forward. We do have a boot cover for and sometimes cover it and fold forward same as Bimini.

Does the Bimini lay back for trailering like the one that comes stock?
- Our Bimini is enclosed in the boot cover and stays in the upright position because of the additional support frame. It also folds down flat on transom.

What is the setup time to get the enclosure setup? Is it too much effort for short excursions?

- Dodger is always up even short trips. Additional time to set-up Bimini and full enclosure. About 10 minutes.

With the wide Dodger. How is there rope handling? Is their room under the dodger to run ropes or is that not needed? My halyard lines run back to the cockpit. I'm afraid the placement of the cam cleat will conflict with the dodger placement.
- Wide dodger impacts access to the winches for sheeting headsail.
- We have double headsail and use winches for staysail.
- Genoa is sheeted from swivel cam cleats on outboard aft T-tracks.
- All our lines are led aft as well and not impact to halyards cleats.

Does the dodger obscure your view to much or is the protection from the elements worth the trade-off?
- obscure is small but more than worth the trade off from wind and wave splash even on nice days.

ps
- We store the full encloure side panels and connector in a net hammoc that hangs in the far aft port side above the berth. (this would be below the gas tank in the cockpit).

In responding to above questions, we set up the dodger and bimini when we launch the boat. 10 minutes is a good estimate of time required. We use quick connect pins instead of the bolts which came with the dodger and bimini. Saves time. After 11 years of use, the clear panels have become somewhat clouded. I recently had Ed, who makes the enclosures for BWY, replace the forward windshield with new clear plastic. It wasn't very expensive, and greatly improves visibility. I probably used some wrong stuff, like windex, to clean the old plastic, and that wasn't a good idea. We often run with the windshield rolled up for better visibility. If I don't need the bimini for sun shade or rain protection, I prefer to secure it overhead to the end of the boom, if not sailing, or to the boom support cable which suspends from the back stay. This allows me to stand without the bimini being in the way. Also, it's not in the way of the steering seat, if I want to raise it. And, it gives me a better view of the engine and area immediately astern. I stow the side and rear curtain panels by rolling them around a short length of cardboard carpet tube, about 8 inches in diameter, and then keeping them in place with a strap of double velcro. This keeps them from sliding around (they're quite slippery otherwise). And it avoids having to fold them up, which can crease the clear plastic. When it's rainy, and I have the side curtains installed, I'll unsnap and unzip them, and then roll them up to the level of the bimini in between showers. Double velcro strips hold them up. This gives better visibility, and it's easy to lower them into place if the rain resumes. We love the enclosure, and it has served us well for the past 12 years.

Le Zéphyr came With this fabulous full enclosure which allows me to sit in the stern seats and has all the necessary holes to pass the lines and sheets through for sailing in the rain while completely enclosed. But the best part of it,as was said earlier, its like having a yacht with 2 floors when it's raining. I usually put it up at night and when its raining.
At night it permits me to keep the front hatch completely open and gives me a headroom of 9 feet sort of like a very high pop top.

That's gorgeous Bertrand ( I hope I got right name with handle)

Having dual cabins on Cape Cod is the only way I can handle 6 crew members for a week!
