Galley Bar Sink QUestion

Post by craiglaforce »

OK, I went to Lowes and bought a Stainless steel bar sink with faucet and drain fitting.

Spend over an hour looking for fittings to go from 3/8 hose barb on the Par 1 pump to the faucet water inlet. This consisted of a standard faucet water supply hose, an angle valve that converts this fitting to 1/2 NPT, a bushing to go from 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch, a coupling to convert the 3/4 male to 3/4 female, then a 3/4 male to 3/8 inch hose barb fitting. That is part 1 accomplished.

Now how do I connect the standard sized big old drain connection to the sink hose? I gues a few others have installed regular sinks, what did you do to adapt the drain to the mac drain?

Thanks as always.

Craig - shouldnt be hard to use PVC plumbing to drop down in size down to the flexible hose....just use standard reducing parts I would think.

Thanks, that sounds like probably the only way to go. I was kind of hoping there was an easier way that would avoid another hour of quality time digging through the fittings department of the home improvement store. Oh well.

Sure would like to know why there are so many different types of fittings.
Must be job security for plumbers or something.
Between compression fittings, flared fittings, NPT fittings, hose fittings, copper sweat fittings, PVC glue fittings, PVc thread fittings, and no doubt countelss others, it is enough to force me to seek out adult beverages.

I used a large diameter hose from the sink drain all the way to the through hull fitting. I left an inch or so of the original smaller diameter hose on the through hull as a spacer. The new large diameter hose then slips over the smaller hose and is clamped.

Also if you have an X, you may need to remove two of the ceramic tiles from the counter top.

I spent a few hours trying to find the same thing from Home Depot and Lowes. I finially decided to look in my marine cataloges and found this Forespar Sink Drain from Defender. It was a perfect fit on both ends. West Marine also carries them also but more expensive.
