Macgregor 26M Sticker Rollup.......Again!
Ok, my "Macgregor 26M" oval stickers has done the "roll up, fade and die" dance. I saw an earlier thread discussing this same issue so I called BWY to order a couple and they are out. They are trying to hook up with another vendor to supply them which brings me to this question. Anyone on here ever think about a re-design of the sticker for their own boat?
With all the computers and printers there has to be someone out there that has produced their own. I was just curious as to see how much someone has gone off the grid in order produce their own. Some of the art work I have seen on Macgregors displayed on this forum is phenomenal. I was hoping to get some ideas from some of you.
Bwy sells them for $6.50 each, plus shipping. That is their current price. I do not know what they will be with the new vendor. It may not be cost effective to even fool with, but neither is the Lazy Jacks and Auto Helm about to be installed on my boat. Besides, those faded stickers make my blue hull look bad, and I am sure I am losing at least 2 knots due to the resistance to the wind the rolled up edges are producing. Help!

It's a good thing you don't have a white hull, you wouldn't be moving at all!apsaunders wrote:Besides, those faded stickers make my blue hull look bad, and I am sure I am losing at least 2 knots due to the resistance to the wind the rolled up edges are producing. Help!

No actually if u had a White Hull u would not be getting or having these silly Issues as the white hull reflects the heat away from ur decals unlike the high maintenance Blue hulls that draw & attract heattaime1 wrote:It's a good thing you don't have a white hull, you wouldn't be moving at all!apsaunders wrote:Besides, those faded stickers make my blue hull look bad, and I am sure I am losing at least 2 knots due to the resistance to the wind the rolled up edges are producing. U see a white Hull is like a natural beautiful woman & is low maint. & requires no make up , not like the Blue hull that has no natural beauty, requires lots of cosmetics & is high maint.

I know a guy here in San Diego who owns a blue-hulled MacGregor 26 and a laser cutting CNC shop. Shall I ask him if he'd like to cut some replacement plastics in 2D that will last forever?

@mastreb,
I would also be very much interested on a set of durable replacements, mine roll up too (on a white hull).
I was actually going to check for a local fabricator, but if there is extended interest on this board your contact could create them and the setup-cost could be split amongst all sets.
Maybe we should start a poll to see how much interest there is?

I would willingly pay for something of higher quality. There's nothing like finishing your hull to a glossy shine only to have those rolled up stickers stand out like they do. They cheapen the boat. Also, when you are talking to a traditionalist sailor who thinks you are too cheap to buy a "real sailboat" and you let him know your boat is worth more than his, he will always point to the sticker and ask, "Are you sure about that?"
I would be interested in more permanent solution that would add class. Something that would enhance the boat and not detract from it.

Happy to pay for something more durable and not so cheesy.

If u want something classy them go with teak or Brass , or teak base with brass name plate
teak will involve maint. not that much though but would be seasonal all brass every other season
or plastic teak base with Brass name plate

My name plate is fine, but would gladly replace it with a classy looking ss etched one.
