I was up near SH a couple of weeks ago - helping put up a Hunter 36. Odd water. :)

It's black - quite a sight - at least for first-timers. :)

The Chicago river does something similar - except it's bodies allegedly tossed in by wiseguys. :P

Or green on St. Pats day.

I have found that if there is enough water.... Our Mac's can go there :D I ,like some others , have plans to do the loop also :) There are several board members that do extended cruises in their Mac's and I don't recall any major problems being reported. Safe boating is the key...along with some planning I guess. 8) Ron.

We are actively planning to cruise the Great Loop. We had hoped to start a year ago, but had to postpone due to family obligations. A whole lot of stars and planets need to properly align in order to successfully undertake and complete a year long cruise. We do have charts and cruising guides for the entire 6000 mile route, and hope to begin this cruise next August. We plan to start at Grand Haven on Lake Michigan, heading for Chicago and counterclockwise on the Great Loop route.

No, but daydreamed about it for years in my 2001 :macx: with new 60 etec OB. Actually have a map in a driftwood frame titled "The great Waterway Circle" map on the wall: shows locks etc and is 2ft by 3ft. The phone # on the map is 800 547 6819. I have actually done what I call the"Not So Great Loop" starting at Navy Pier in downtown Chicago southwest on the south branch of the Chicago river to Lockport, then northeast on Calumet river/Cal Sag to Calumet Harbor on Lake Michigan then cruise north along shoreline back to Navy Pier. Great trip at trawler speed. Bring enough refreshment for a full day as the government in its infinite wisdom has made the south branch of Chicago river a NO WAKE zone (Gee could it be prompted by the string of high end condos developing on the river front?" God forbid the tranquility of their million dollar condos be disturbed by boat motor noise. This cruise is not sailboat friendly a/c stationary bridges but I am able to enjoy it since I demasted the :macx:

On my retirement list also

I have lived on part of the loop for over 40 years. Trent canal, Lake Ontario, Georgian Bay, and Lake Simcoe.

Took a trip up part of the loop a few years ago mastless. Was a great trip going through all the locks.

Plan to go from Lake Simcoe to Lake Ontario, then trailer it back to Barrie as part of a baby test the water kind of trip soon.

Deffinitely a summer trip that wil take several weeks.

Then when retired, go all the way down to Florida and back. Keys, ICW etc.

We did Montgomery Alabama to Key West and back in 2013 , 8 months and 3500 miles .

The Great Loop is on the to-do list , but probably not in 2015 .
We have done parts of it in different cruises . We have currently done all from Tenn . to St Lucie inlet on Floridas east coast .
So we are talking about trailering to Indian Town marina FL and starting from there .

We are seriously talking about doing the Texas coast in 2015 . We can then say we have done all of the USA Gulf coast .

There's a thread kicking around here somewhere I started, asking about anyone who's done the Great Loop. I'd like to do it too.

Please keep us up-to-date on anything you find.
