2015 Schedule of Las Vegas Bay Macgregor Association

Post by Captain Kimo »

:macm: :macx: :mac19: :tat: :tat22: :tat26:
Regular sailors of Lake Mead 8) here is the schedule for Las Vegas Bay Macgreor Association 2015 events:

• Mead Madness Sail '15 (MMS): April 24 to May 1, 2015

• Fall Flotilla Sail '15 (FFS) October 9-16, 2015,

WHAT: THIS IS A SOCIAL “GET TOGETHER” OF SAILBOAT OWNERS AND SKIPPERS TO SAIL AS A GROUP ON THE WATERS OF LAKE MEAD. The two schedule Sails are week long group sail to the five basins of Lake Mead.  Overnighting in either sheltered coves or one of Lake Mead marina's courtesy docks.  Newbie skippers are welcome. We have a group of regular Lake Mead sailors that have sailed together for many years and have a wealth of advise and assistance.

THERE WILL NOT BE DURING THE “GET TOGETHER” PERIODS OF THE SAIL ANY  :
• TIMED MARINE EVENT (e.g. sailboat races, sailing rally, etc.)
• ANY BEVERAGES OR FOOD DISTRIBUTED BY THE LAS VEGAS BAY MACGREGOR ASSOCIATION.
• FEE CHARGED FOR THE SAILS BY THE LAS VEGAS BAY MACGREGOR ASSOCIATION.

WHERE: Launching at Callville Bay Marina ramp.  Callville Bay Marina is located 12 miles East of Junction RTs 147/167 on the Northshore Scenic Drive, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, NV.  Group to assembly at a SW sheltered cove of Callville Bay just outside and to starboard coming out of the marina's tire jetty entrance.  Will be monitoring VHF Channel 68 on the hour to provide directions.  Overnight courtesy dock fee at Callville Bay Marina is $15 assessed about  11 PM.  Mast up boat camping overnight in the Callville Bay camp grounds $10.  If available, use the camp sites along the South side for widest spaces in the camp ground.  A $50 fine could be assessed for boat camping in the marina parking lot.

DUE TO THE ONGOING RECEDING WATERS OF LAKE MEAD, CALLVILLE BAY REGULAR RAMP IS CLOSED AND ALL LAUNCHING AND RECOVERY IS A THE MARKED “LOW WATER RAMP”. VEHICLES AND TRAILERS PARKING ALLOWED AT THE TOP OF THIS RAMP. VEHICLES ARE NOW ALLOWED TO PARK AT THE REGULAR RAMP AREA.   However, recommend parking in the Long Term parking lot "C" at the lower level in the marina parking area.  Water, ice, fuel, food, small grocers available at all the open marinas. Only fuel available at Echo Bay. The alternate launch ramp is the BOULDER RAMP at the West end of the lake.

WHEN: Group Sails usually start out from Callville Bay in the AM on first Sunday of the event.

PROVISIONING: Recommend provisioning before entering the tolled Lake Mead National Recreation Area.  Wal-Mart, and West Marine are located at a strip mall at Lake Mead Drive (Rt 147) and Boulder Hwy.  Recommend fueling vehicle and boat before entering.

AIS (Alien Invasive Species) Sticker Requirement on Nevada Waters: With the invasion of the quagga mussels, in Lake Mead and other lakes of Nevada, there is now a requirement for all water craft on the lakes to purchase a AIS sticker. The can be purchased on the internet at https://www.ndowlicensing.com/%28or13vm ... chase.aspx.

If there is anything I forgot, or a Sailmate I missed please pass the "word" to me and them.  Hope to see you all there.

Hi Newell,
I plan to attend (April). I'll be dropping my boat into the local pond after(Silverwood Lake) in May or June, for a couple months, maybe three. I'm going to try to get a hold of "Tropico" and see if he's coming.

We'll be at Havasu Feb. 1 thru 6. Staying @ LBR. Reserved a slip for the boat. Weather should be in the upper 70s and clear. We're looking forward to a few warn days on the lake, as it's been very cold here on the homestead. Kimo is meeting us there.

Best Breezes,
Steve K.

Hello Steve, Kimo, and Newel.

First, I have to announce that as of Friday, January 23 I am officially "RETIRED" from the City of Los Angeles. 30.5 years of government service is complete and now it is time for me to coastal sail all over both coasts of the US. I am working on some home projects and then some boat projects. Not sure if I am going to Lake Mead in April as I might already be in the Gulf of Mexico by then. I will keep in touch to let you know.
Best wishes.
