Yes, Here is the Salton Sea where that old truck is:
As for the "pet", the dinosaur is only a friend of the van - they only know each other because the van has a "dinosaur name". There is a pet on board though:
If you look close, there is a tiny rabbit. Here he is just chillin on the couch in Seligman (Route 66) He has been to New York, Florida (twice) Key West, Memphis - (he was a big hit at Graceland and Nashville), and all the southwestern states MANY times. Gettysburg to Barstow - he's seen it all. And no, he does not get car sick. He is happiest when we are on the road.
I'm glad to know about the truck... thought maybe I was having a telepathic moment I know a Lady that has a pet rabbit... She is from Russia and She says they are a common pet over there Pretty cool Ron

Yeah, if you travel a lot like we do the rabbit is the only thing that has worked. This might still count as 'weird' since that's the topic.
The fuel range on the van is 600 miles so we do 12 hours straight ALL THE TIME when doing the cross country stuff which is often because we live in the far left lower corner the United States so EVERYWHERE is a 'road trip'. We are not in the middle of anything. Almost every trip we do starts with at least one day of cross country travel of 600 miles or more. It's not often we go somewhere "close" like San Francisco. Dogs require a pit stop every three hours or so and cats usually don't like travel and even if they do the litter box will make your RV smell because cats are meat eaters and meat rots. We make meals and poop and pee and all that other "pit stop" stuff right on the road without stopping so it's hard to find an animal that can do the same and be clean. As you may have gathered looking at past pictures of 'boat' we are rather clean people and the rabbit is very clean. He has no odor - he always smells very nice. He only eats hay and some veggies so there is no odor in their hay box. Our daughter owns the rabbit and will not let us take him on the boat - but I ask all the time. Maybe someday she will let me take him on the boat.
The rabbit is well potty trained, he has a little cage under the couch in the RV where his bed is and hay box where he does his thing. He will only poop or pee in that hay box. The rest of the time he sits on the couch and takes in the sights when he's not cruising around in his stroller. He can also hold it in for a long time too (like 8 hours) so if you go on a long hike and take the rabbit they won't go poop or pee if they are trained. He likes riding around in the stroller. He was a big hit at Times Square. If he is going to be away from the van out in the stroller for more than 7 hours we just slide his hay bucket into the bottom of his stroller.
If he needs to go he will scratch at the bottom of the stroller to let us know he wants his hay bucket so we just move it unto the inside of the stroller and he uses it in there and then when he is done we put it back under. Of all the animals we have tried to travel with this one has been the easiest.
Sounds like He(?) has You trained real well Just kidding I was wondering what type of pfd....or rfd You had for it I'll bet it would do alright on the boat.
I guess the wife and daughter would need to stitch something up and I would probably put a safety line on him. I don't think he could get up the companionway stairs so below deck he would be on his own just fine. Cat's are real good for that kind of stuff too - cats seem to do pretty good on boats. The best way I can describe what it's like is sort of like a cross between a dog and a cat.
