My 2002 26X has a Detmar 4-200 Rack and Pinion steering system that required gorilla strength to tack. The culprit appeared to be the cable which consists of a rack fused on one end of the clad cable and the push rod fused on the other end with no apparent means to lubricate. I did not want to replace the entire steering system. Although other comments on this site indicate that Detmar no longer made replacement parts/cables, I visited the Detmar website (http://www.detmarcorp.com) and used their web e-mail to ask where a replacement could be obtained. To my surprise they had it in stock. The cost $125.00 plus shipping. Replacement was a breeze. Maybe they have more.

For about $20 more You could have replaced the whole thing with a Rotech planetary system. In my opinion, a better, smoother, and certainly less trouble prone system than the Detmar.
