Looking for the impeller for 1999 MacGregor26x 50HP Evinrude

Post by whyguruguru »

Hello

I tested my 50HP Evinrude motor today and found out the water did not come out of water hose (the pee hole). Instead the water came out from a small section on the back of the motor.

My neighbor told me the impeller may be wore off and needs a replacement.

I look up on amazon but I wasn't too sure if I am looking at the correct parts.

I believe my motor is a 1999 2 stroke 50HP Evinrude Outboard motor.

and here is the link to amazon
http://www.amazon.com/SEI-PRODUCTS--Evi ... eller+50hp

Will anyone be kind enough to help me verify on the part.

It's important to know the part number for replacements (every two to three years), but you also need to try a simple procedure. Take a wire and ream the pee hole. You may also just have a blockage.

Did you try checking the Internet for the nearest dealer, or even calling the manufacturer for a part number?

The pee hole, tube, and/or fitting on the block may be clogged. Water coming out somewhere, other than what's forced by the garden hose (if that's what's supplying the water), suggests that the impeller is doing something. What's unclear is where exactly it's coming from, and if that's normal.

I just went through that on a motor, peeing but no cooling though. Mud daubers had made a bit of a mess. You can take off the thermostat cover with two bolts and see if water is pumping up to the the motor to verify the impeller is pumping. You can also check the thermostat in a pan of warm water while its out to make sure it works.

In Whygurugiru's predicament, the symptom is no water from the pee hole. Can an older engine have prostate problems. :o  :D

But the other half of the problem is that water is coming out of a place you wouldn't expect it to.

Yup. Sounds age related. :|

Experienced the same issue beginning of the season this year. Where the rubber hose connected to the engine had deteriorated. I used a piece of plastic tubing, probably close to 1/8 size, sliced it down the middle and shaped the end for the correct size of the port. Looks kind of funny with about 6 inched of white tubing sticking out the side of the engine (never trimmed it) but it has worked well since May. I will attempt a better repair when it is out of the water, might look towards plastic tube over rubber.

I get the mud wasps in my pee hole (ouch) every season so It is a spring item to clean them out with a wire
Take a wire and ream the pee hole.

I remember having to have that done back in Nam :D :D :D :o :? :) :(
Thank you for (over) sharing.

(and your service)

:D :D :D

Fixed quote. Ray did not have his pee hole fixed in Nam. I presume he had it fixed elsewhere.

Just to be clear, the last part of that quote ( I remember having to have that done back in Nam )was from “Brady”. He deserves the praise.
