26X Drain Hole in Head?
Just a quick dumb newbie question: Is that a drain hole in the floor of the head of my 2001 26X, just to port of the porta-pottie? No picture handy, but the hole itself is about the size of a dime, with a sort of maybe ¼ inch deep incuse lip about the size of a nickel around that. If it IS a drain hole, does it just drain straight into the bilge, or is there some sort of pipe or hose leading the flow elsewhere? Assuming it's a drain hole, then mine appears to be clogged up, and tips for unclogging it are welcome. I was thinking of taking a length of pretty stout solid-core copper household electrical wiring to it. I also wonder whether that nickel-sized lip cut in around the hole might be for some sort of little screen or drain cover to help keep it from getting clogged in the first place. What say you all?

I don't recall seeing any such hole in mine. Unfortunately, I just put the tarp on it yesterday, and can't get back in without a lot of untying, so I can only work from memory (or lack thereof).

Since my limited time on an "X" means I am not very familiar with the
, please forgive this question. Is there any removable panel under the aft sleeping area mattress that would expose the bilge to the rear of the head? If you shined a flashlight into the hole, would you then be able to see if it clearly shines through? I thought I remember the head being on the starboard side, just in front of the aft sleeping area.

Re: 26X Drain Hole in Head?
No drain hole in a stock 2002 X head. If there is a hole in the floor there, then it drains directly into the bilge. If you open up the aft dinette seat and take out the big fiberglass tub, you can reach your hand under the head floor. If you go in the rear berth and take off the flat access panel that is in the floor there (there is one on each side) you can see back underneath the head floor. You can run pipes and wires right underneath the head floor.
I have a fresh water tank for the toilet supply and a black-water tank for the toilet return located under the forward dinette seat. The pumpout connection is in the roof of the head. So I have three large pipes and a small vent pipe coming from the forward dinette seat routed through the bilge, and then up through the floor of the head. There was enough room in the bilge underneath to turn these pipes (the big ones are about an inch in diameter each) up through the head floor.

No hole in mine, but its a mod I have on the list to put a drain and a sump for catching water under there so we can have sit down showers in there.
There is plenty of room under the moulding for pipes etc.

Just for the heck of it, I browsed the Mod's section.

Dear Master of the Bilge,
No official hole in an
in the head. I have a similar shower mod that Ray dug up. As you can see there's a little room underneath. Could the hole have been placed there to show up water in the bilge
If it's a drain what does it drain to...
Pull out your: aft dinette seat, cooler & what not, get a flashlight & look aft; get to the bottom of this - as your name implies - Master of the Bilge

I have a drain to the head sink. Dig in the cabinet under the sink and you will find the plastic tubing.

Re: 26X Drain Hole in Head?
Thanks for the input, guys! Looks like my "hole in the head" must be some previous owner's mod, so I guess I'll be donning my miner's lamp, looting the Admiral's makeup horde for a little mirror and doing my Plasticman routine to get to the bottom of it.

Re: 26X Drain Hole in Head?
There you go.Hole in the Head Disease is probably the most feared disease of them all.
Hole in the Head Disease is not always fatal if caught early and treated. However, it can often leave terrible scarring on the head which may be permanent after the disease has healed.
Hole in the Head Disease is curable, but more importantly, it is perfectly preventable. Regular tank maintenance, i.e. water changes, removing solid debris from the tank and filtration system will help keep the water in good condition. Good water conditions are the key to preventing Hole in the Head Disease.
Change the water in your tank regularly and the holes should disappear.
