Hi all,
I was running new lighting wiring up my mast last week and had to remove the stainless steel foot from the mast to gain access when I noticed a fair bit of corrosion between that foot and the alloy mast itself, now I know of course that stainless and alloy don't mix well but how do you stop this corrosion getting worse, so far it is only surface corrosion but I don't want it to eventually weaken what must be a high stress point on the boat, so I know you should use Tef-Gel or CorrosionX on bolts and rivets where different metals meet but this is a moving part and I was thinking maybe a plastic washer (like a CD but thinner) between the two surfaces may work?
What are your thoughts and is yours also corroding here?
Cheers, Dennis.
